どこに行っても観光客でいっぱいの
週末のロンドン。
週末にひとつだけ穴場のエリアがあります。
それはシティ・オブ・ロンドンです。
金融街なので平日は賑わっていますが
土曜日はオフィスがお休みなので
人が少なく穏やかに過ごせます。
お休みのお店も多いのですが
カフェ、レストランは営業しています。
このエリアに来たら王立取引所
ロイヤルエクスチェンジは必見。
今はショッピングモールになっているのですが
ガラスの天井から美しい自然光が入る
壮大な吹き抜けの空間は圧巻で、
思わず足を止めてしまいます。
日曜日は施設そのものがお休みに
なってしまうので土曜日がオススメです！

As a financial district, it’s quiet on Saturdays with offices closed, making it a peaceful place to explore.
The Royal Exchange is a must visit its stunning glass atrium is absolutely breathtaking.
Note: it’s closed on Sundays,

ロンドン在住の友人からリクエストを受けて
日本から持ってきた贈り物の記録。
ギフトは日本のもぐさ(お灸)ですが
シンプルなパッケージだったので
森の木々が描かれたデザインペーパーに
ディープグリーンのシルクリボンをかけて
ラッピングしてみました。
最近取り入れたダイカットマシンで作った
葉っぱのモチーフのタグには
カリグラフィーでBel été(良い夏を)と
メッセージを添えました。
昨年夏の恵美先生 との
コラボレッスンで登場したこれからの
季節に大活躍のフレーズです。

A gift brought from Japan, at the request of my London-based friend.
The gift itself is moxa — used in Japanese moxibustion therapy. The original packaging was quite simple, so I wrapped it in a design paper featuring illustrated forest trees, tied with a deep green silk ribbon.
The leaf-shaped tag, made with my die-cut machine, carries a calligraphy message Bel été, meaning “Have a beautiful summer” a phrase that first appeared in a collaboration lesson with Ms. Emi Miyachi last summer, and one I find myself reaching for every year as the season arrives.
I hope she loves it!

初夏のお楽しみと言えば
この時期だけの青梅を使った
自家製の梅シロップ作り。
材料はたった3つ
✔︎︎︎︎ 青梅 1kg
✔︎︎︎︎ 食酢 150ml ～ 200ml
✔︎︎︎︎ 氷砂糖 1kg
(氷砂糖は中日本氷糖さんのものを使用)
① 梅のヘタを竹串などで取ります。
② 傷つけないように水洗いします。
③ キッチンペーパーなどで水気をよく拭き取ります。
④ 殺菌した保存容器に1/3の梅を入れます。
⑤ 次に氷砂糖を入れます。
⑥ 梅▶︎氷砂糖と1/3ずつ交互に重ねます。
⑦ 全て入れたら食酢(今回は米酢)を入れます。
容器の蓋を閉めて梅をすみずみまでぬらして
氷砂糖が溶けるまで待ちます。
約3週間後…
美味しい梅シロップの完成！
ソーダで割れば爽やかな
夏のドリンクの出来上がり。
他にもミルクで割ったり
かき氷のシロップにしたり

梅シロップのお好きな飲み方はありますか？
One of the great joys of early summer!
Making homemade plum syrup with fresh green plums,
only available at this time of year.
Just 3 ingredients:
✔︎ Green plums — 1kg
✔︎ Vinegar — 150–200ml
✔︎ Rock sugar — 1kg
(I used rock sugar from Nakanihon Hyoto)
① Remove the stem of each plum using a bamboo skewer.
② Rinse gently, being careful not to bruise them.
③ Pat dry thoroughly with a paper towel.
④ Place 1/3 of the plums into a sterilized jar.
⑤ Add a layer of rock sugar.
⑥ Repeat, alternating plums and rock sugar in thirds.
⑦ Once all ingredients are in, pour in the vinegar (I used rice vinegar).
Close the lid and tilt the jar to coat the plums evenly.
Wait until the rock sugar fully dissolves.
After about 3 weeks…
your homemade plum syrup is ready!
