Led by artists Sioux Tempestt and Julianne Wade and coordinated by WA art consultancy Apparatus, the workshop invited close to 30 families to take part in creative activities that will inform a series of printed-glass artworks for Sandcastles’ North Garden and Nature Play Zone.
Close to 40 children participated, including siblings, 10 children from nearby Swanbourne Primary School, and more than 15 children with life-limiting conditions who regularly attend.
Their contributions will be transformed into eight circular glass inserts, creating subtle moments of colour, light and discovery throughout the outdoor environment.
The works respond to the curatorial vision “To Be Held”, reflecting Sandcastles as a place of care, protection, refuge and support for children and families.
As Dr Lisa Cuddeford, Head of Department, Paediatric Palliative Care and Hospice Service at Perth Children’s Hospital shared, these artworks will carry “the voices, stories and imagination of the people at the heart of this project.”
A beautiful reminder that Sandcastles is about so much more than just the building. To read the article and find out more, head to the link in our bio.

Today, on World Human Milk Donation Day, we’re proud to celebrate a very special milestone – 20 years of the Perron Rotary Express Milk (PREM) Bank, which has helped give vulnerable babies across WA the best possible start to life.
For two decades, the PREM Bank has provided safe, pasteurised donor human milk to premature and medically fragile babies at Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital when their own mother’s milk is unavailable.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, the PREM Bank supports up to 400 babies each year, with around 1,000 litres of donor milk carefully screened, processed and distributed by clinicians, scientists and support staff.
Today we say thank you to our donors and teams for their continued commitment to improving outcomes for our more vulnerable patients.
If you’re a breastfeeding mother with surplus milk, you could help support babies and families during their most vulnerable days.
