Set within Los Padres National Forest, Camp Lakota gives girls a place to build outdoor skills while learning what it means to care for the natural world.

The panelized cabins and shared facilities are carefully arranged to minimize disruption to the forest ecosystem and preserve the site’s natural beauty. Mass timber cabin floors are elevated on piers, allowing stormwater to flow naturally beneath them while providing fire resistance below. The buildings are passively ventilated through strategically placed operable windows and louvers, while the A-frame form offers a nostalgic nod to the traditional camping tent familiar to campers of all ages.

Led by Principals Leigh Christy and Gabrielle Bullock, the design balances environmental sensitivity with durable, welcoming spaces for the next generation of campers.

Once a defunct call center, the Brier campus in San Bernardino is now a community health hub shaped by urgency and purpose. Designed to address the critical shortage of care for under- and uninsured patients, the project was completed in just 16 months and is expected to support more than 300,000 patient visits over the next 5 years.

The transformation achieved 100 percent reuse of the existing core and shell. A generous structural grid and open floor plan maximize daylight and create an atmosphere of openness, while the building delivers significant water and energy savings compared to baseline standards. Modular clinical spaces allow for future growth and reconfiguration as community needs evolve.

Throughout the campus, organic forms, nature-inspired palettes, tactile materials, and refuge-like seating areas reinforce a calming, patient-centered experience. The result is a replicable model for delivering high-quality health resources to long-underserved communities.

The holiday party brought together the teams from our Chinatown, West Adams, and San Diego offices. The hospitality at was top-notch and getting to visit was a first for many of the team.

The food and beverage options include hearth fired dishes from Morocco, Iran, Georgia, and Lebanon. No notes.

The evening proved to be a successful first full team outing, although the only group photo that was taken seems to be from the second location... #designersinthewild
Nothing brings the team together like Thanksgiving. The combination of with earlier this year means many more favorite dishes at the 2025 Cultural Potluck. It was a great moment of synergy to realize our shared love of family recipes and holiday traditions.

Happy Thanksgiving to our staff, clients, and colleague in Southern California (and now worldwide). We wish the best for their families and all the communities they are a part of.
A big night out at the annual gala. Congrats to the award winners and the communities they serve.

We were honored to have our clients from with us to share the spotlight. It is truly humbling to experience the respect and care the space has received over the past two decades.

The office was a-buzz with the Halloween spirit this week. Meaning that our All Staff meeting on Tuesday had a few more interesting characters than normal.

We had it all covered in the costume category... Ranging from cursors, cowboys, outties, wizards, and creepy dolls. Surprisingly, the missing side dish detectives were no match for our resident Louvre Heisters, who took home a custom laser-printed trophy, along with their jewel haul.
Last week, the Perkins&Will, and team joined our client for the Ribbon-Cutting ceremony for the new SAC Health Brier Campus in San Bernardino, CA. Previously a call center, this adaptive reuse project transformed the 280,000 square foot space into a state-of-the-art outpatient facility. Our design-build team implemented modular design principles to deliver the project ahead of schedule, all while ensuring flexibility for future growth and change. The project features clinical, dental, behavioral health and specialty care services, an express care clinic for urgent community needs, and a Community Resource Center.
Welcome to an exciting new chapter in our SoCal story!, a respected Southern California architecture and design firm with offices in Los Angeles and San Diego, has joined Perkins&Will.

With an entrepreneurial spirit and hands-on approach to design, some of Abramson’s most notable projects include Third and Traction, the conversion of historic warehouses in LA’s Arts District into vibrant retail and creative offices; Platform, a mixed-use art and design quarter in Culver City; Synapse, an immersive creative office space in Culver City’s tech corridor; The Aaron Milken Center, an early childhood educational campus in LA; and the Lucy Curci Cancer Center in Rancho Mirage. By joining forces, we plan to leverage our joint capabilities to better serve our clients across SoCal—elevating the quality of our work and deepening the impact we have on the communities we serve.

As part of the merger, Trevor Abramson FAIA, who founded the firm in 1987, becomes managing director of our combined SoCal practice, which includes our LA and San Diego studios. Marco Marraccini of Abramson will serve as design director, while Michael Williams of Perkins&Will takes on the role of operations director.

“This is a coming-together of two deeply like-minded firms with complementary skills and experiences, both of whom are committed to making a positive impact on communities through great design,” says Lindsey Peckinpaugh, Perkins&Will president. “We admire Abramson Architects’ track record for design leadership, excellence in client care, and cultivation of talent—because we share those same values. As one firm, united, we’ll amplify our collective strengths.”
