This was taken on our last night in the north of Spain before heading back to Barcelona for the final couple of days of our trip last year. The skies were pretty clear, which is never ideal for photography, but we still got some really beautiful light and colours, even without the clouds doing their thing. As I was setting up the camera, working out the best composition for this scene, strolled right into my frame and insisted I turn it into a mini portrait session before the light disappeared. And really… what kind of husband would I be if I said no to my one-month-pregnant wife asking for photos at the beach while mother nature served us this light? In the end, I’m glad she walked into the frame because this turned out to be one of my favorite shots from the trip.

I visited this spot in Yoho National Park 2 or 3 years ago and spent quite a bit of time searching for a composition, but nothing really spoke to me that day. I knew I’d eventually come back for another try. Although I enjoy going on photo adventures with like minded people, this time, I went on my own allowing me to slow down and tune everything out giving me the chance to really connect with the scene. It was also nice to return to what brought me to landscape photography in the first place, shooting waterfalls which I have not been doing much this past year or two. Thanks for stopping by!

We were greeted with a lot of rain—pretty typical for the region—but got lucky the day we made it out here. The rain eventually stopped, though the sky was still thick with clouds when I took this shot.
Even under a grey sky, the place has a kind of quiet, majestic beauty that hits you as soon as you see it.
Later on, the clouds started to break, and we ended up catching some incredible light and a beautiful sunset. I’ll share those shots in my future post of this location.

I lost count at how manytimes I woke up at stupid o'clock for a sunrise only to be disapointed with a grey overcast or clear blue sky instead. So imagine my excitment when I was driving to my location and I started to see the sky light up behind the mountains. There was one problem though, I was a few minutes away from the trailhead and still had to hike 2km. I started to worry I simply wouldn't make it on time. I had no idea I had it in me to sprint for 2km with a 40 lbs camera backpack on my back, but with the right motivation, I guess anything is possible! Once I got to the spot, the sky was on fire and the sunrise was at its peak. I didn't even have time to catch my breath, I setup the camera and started shooting.
This image is a focus stack of 2 photos plus a third darker exposure blended in for the sky in order to preserve the details in the highlights.
