مجسمهی زن جوان سوار بر قنطورس در باغوحش برلین.
قنطورس یا سانتاروس در میان اساطیر یونان جزو معروفترین موجودات افسانهای است. قنطورس موجودی است نیمی انسان و نیمی اسب، با سر، دو دست و بالاتنهی انسان، بدن و چهار پای اسب.
🔸 از ديدگاه تاریخی: قنطورس یا سانتاروس نام یکی از اقوام یونان قدیم است که در کوهستانهای اطراف کوهستان پلیون زندگی میکردند، ایشان سرشتی متوحش داشتهاند و از آن رو که در سوارکاری مهارت بسیار داشته و سخت توانا بودند، اسب و سوار بصورت حیوانی واحد تصور میشدند.
🔸 در اساطیر: ایکسیون، پادشاه لاپیتها، به خاطر قتل پدر معشوقهاش، عذاب وجدان داشت. زئوس بر او ترحم کرد و او را به کوه المپ برد. اما ایکسیون عاشق «هِرا» همسر زئوس شد. زئوس از ماوقع مطلع شد و ابری را به شکل هرا به سراغ ایکسیون فرستاد. از نزدیکی ایکسیون و این ابر، موجودی به اسم «سانتاروس» به دنیا آمد و از آمیزش او با مادیانهای کوه پلیون، تمام قنطورسها به وجود آمدند. اکثر آنها موجوداتی رام نشده و وحشی بودند و به مستی و مسائل شهوانی شهرت دارند.

تاریخ ساخت و بنیانگذار اولیه باغ ارم شیراز به درستی مشخص نیست، ولی توصیفهایی از آن در سفرنامههای متعلق به سدهی دهم و یازدهم هجری آمده است که گواه بر این است که این باغ از روزگار سلجوقیان پابرجا بوده است. از عصر صفویه به بعد باغ ارم در نوشتههای جهانگردان، آباد و باشکوه توصیف شده است. در عهد کریم خان زند احتمالاً باغ ارم در مالکیت سران سلسله زندیه بوده و مانند سایر ابنیه و باغهای شیراز مرمت شده است.
عمارت وسط، هسته مرکزی این باغ محسوب میشود. این ساختمان در زمان قاجاریه و با تقلید از سبک معماری زندیه ساخته شده است و از نظر معماری، نقاشی، کاشیکاری و گچبری از شاهکارهای معماری زمان قاجار است.
این عمارت، از سه طبقه، با تزئینات فراوان و کاشیکاریهای رنگین تشکیل شده است. اتاقهای طبقه زیرین، محلی برای استراحت در روزهای گرم تابستان هستند. دو طبقه بالایی دارای ستونهایی است که از تخت جمشید الهام گرفته شدهاند.
در پیشانی بنا، دو نیمدایره در دو طرف، و یک تابلو بزرگ در وسط قرار گرفته که از سه هلال روی هم تشکیل شدهاست. این تابلو، تصاویری از شاهنامهٔ فردوسی و نبرد شاهان قاجار را نشان میدهد.
