At Papelon, 67% or 2/3 of the (I think) tender, slow-cooked meat choices come with sweet plantain goodness. Throw in some cheese and some saucy goodness and you’re left with some fine 🇻🇪 Venezuelan flavours 😋
For those who may not be too familiar with this South American nation, you may have heard about a certain country’s president being abducted by the US military at the start of the year. But we don’t need to go into detail with that 😬
On a lighter note, I think their flag looks cool though with the stars and their arrangement 🌟
Funnily enough, back home, Footscray has a Venezuelan restaurant...which coincidentally is also named Papelon – where I was first exposed to this cuisine. I still remember the tequenos (stretchy cheese filled dough sticks)...which were unfortunately sold out here 😔
In conclusion, fruit and meat = good. But don’t go throwing a fruit salad on your roast chickens now...unless 🤔

We’ve been dying to try Venezuelan food for the longest time, and so we were excited when we were invited down to to try out their menu!
We headed to the branch in Netil Market in London Fields, and it was a glorious day of good food and great weather!
The flavours were absolutely out of this world, and watching the master Juan on the flat top was an absolute privilege!
It’s hard to pick what we enjoyed most. The Arepa had mind-blowing textures, from the crunchy exterior to the fluffy warm interior. The Cachapa con Todo had both the savory notes from the cheese and pulled beef combined with the sweetness from the plantain. The Empanada was juicy and crispy and just so good.
All in all, it’s no wonder thet have won awards - their food is THAT good and a must try! It’s also insane value, with nothing on the menu over £12.
Make sure to get down to Papelon for the best vibes and value!
