I call them Victorian Stair Grips (rightly of wrongly!) and I removed all of the gloss paint as follows:
* boil in water and bicarb soda for approx 2 hours
* wash off once cooled give a scrub with a toothbrush
* once dry brush with a wire brush
* add rub n buff in highlighted areas for that extra gold shine!
They look brand new and 7 months on still look perfect in place 🤩 would you believe after I did all of the above, I found another bag of some hidden in the under stairs cupboard WITHOUT PAINT!!! 😂🙈
