Its colour comes from landscape: deep woodland greens, damp earth, moss and shadow. The Donegal yarn holds texture and variation, echoing land shaped slowly by weather and time.
This is knitwear designed to move with your daily rhythm. To warm you while the kettle boils. To be reached for without thought. To soften and settle as life unfolds around it.
At OUBAS, we believe the best clothing belongs quietly within the everyday — not saved for best, not rushed, but lived with.

Unlike cut-and-sew clothing, it is created directly from yarn — engineered stitch-by-stitch, shaped three-dimensionally as it is made, and finished by skilled hands.
At OUBAS, we continue and refine this tradition in our Lake District studio. Working with natural fibres and fully-fashioned construction, we knit in small quantities and made-to-order — ensuring purpose, integrity and longevity in every piece.
Our focus is on thoughtful design, technical excellence and a deep respect for material and place.
This is modern British knitwear — rooted in heritage, made with care, and created to endure.

There were a few questions I remember asking myself before starting:
How can I root my work in the home and landscapes I love, and allow the landscape to shape it? What if a brand could belong to a place?
What would a clothing factory look like if it was made with true care — not speed?
What kind of business would feel nourishing — for me, for makers, and for the community of our customers who wear what we create?
Slow fashion is often described as “the opposite of fast fashion,” but for us at OUBAS, it has more rooted origins:
We prioritise quality materials, local manufacturing and small-scale production.
Our knitwear is ‘fully-fashioned’, meaning each panel is shaped to size rather than cut from cloth — a traditional method that reduces waste and improves longevity.
We make in small runs and to order here in Cumbria, so production remains intentional and transparent.
Slow fashion is not about more — it is about enough. It is about care, time and attention. It is about designing garments to be worn often, repaired when needed, and cherished for years.
It’s not about chasing seasons. It’s about building garments that become part of your life.
That commitment to place and to craft sits at the centre of OUBAS, now and always.

This winding machine adds wax to our wools and other yarns, to help them to knit well on our knitting machines. We also use it like this, to backwind faulty panels or mistakes for us.
It means sometimes we backwind panels that have dropped stitches we can’t mend my hand, sometimes human errors if we threaded the machine wrong, sometimes a needle in the bed of the machine was slightly out of alignment and caused the fabric to have a fault.

Our studio is back open today after a well deserved break for our team. Orders placed over the break will be picked up and looked after this week and you can visit our showroom to shop again every day.
It’s been a liminal time of rest and restoration for us, away from the urgency of pre-Christmas ✨
Our clothing is all designed and made here — shaped by the rhythm of this landscape and the people who craft it.
We work with only natural fibres and time-honoured skills; creating garments to live with for years.
Calm. Considered. Connected to place.
This is OUBAS.
Our Betheca Mens Cardigan is a shawl-collar style, crafted in the Lake District with a blend of Irish wool and merino wool, to be worn and kept for years.
Bethecar Moor is above Coniston Water and is high moorland; it’s isolation and calm is one of it’s main attractions.
Wild heathers grow in abundance here on the moorland, which is why we offer this cardigan in our shades of Plum, Olive and Navy.
