Ori gallery invites Black Diasporic Trans Artists to submit their works for Sun Kissed, an exhibition focused on the many ways we self-evolve, inhabit our bodies and assert our autonomy.
Throughout time humans have adorned and adapted themselves not just for survival but for self expression and self actualization. In an unpredictable and sometimes hostile world, the body can serve as a site of sensuality, connection and belonging. This exhibition seeks to explore self intimacy vs intimacy with others, how we create ourselves, how we grow into ourselves - engaging in self curation over time.
All mediums accepted. Each participating artist will receive an artist fee of $800.

Ebony Frison and Stephanie Adams-Santos, both Portland-based artists and poets, come together to create a space to recall, reflect, and hold grief. Working in distinct visual languages, both artists engage memory as something active and persistent that lingers in image, land, and the body. Bringing together printmaking, installation, photography, and the written word, the exhibition takes its title from the concept of “rememory” in Toni Morrison’s Beloved, where memory is understood as experiential. Memory can live and breathe, love and admonish. Haunt.
Opening Reception April 3rd, 6-8pm This exhibition is curated by TK Smith and is part of the Oregon Contemporary Artists’ Biennial, a survey of works by visual and performing artists who are defining and advancing Oregon’s contemporary art landscape.
Within the yellow square it reads:
“ORI GALLERY IS FUNDRAISING! Help us turn the house next door into a livable and loving home.”
On the yellow square it reads “Now, with the support of our community, we’ve begun discussions to purchase our gallery outright plus the lot it’s on, house next door included.
Within the first year of Ori opening its doors, we had already outgrown our space. With this land, we would be able to expand beyond the 400 square foot exhibition space and offer our community:
• Outdoor Events
• Permanent Low-Income Housing for Black Creatives
• Housing for Artists in Residence
• Larger Art Productions and Exhibits
We have also seen first-hand how great the Portland artist community’s needs for accesible housing is. We are eager to see what we can do with this lane.
Dream it with us…”
“OUR ASK: We are in discussions with lawyers and preparing to assume responsibility for the property and restoration process, we’ve identified the following costs:
• $250,000to restore the fire damaged areas and make the house safe to use by Spring 2024.
• $1,000,000 to get the building up to code, meet current accessibility standards, resume full exhibitions, residencies, and community programming as soon as possible.
Help us keep our momentum by supporting our efforts to secure this space for years to come by donating to our fundraiser.
