🍰 We are celebrating because we are already more than five thousand in this family of Orca Mexico. Since I was 4 years old I played in the water with toy killer whales, marine animals, boats, divers, then I read books about marine life, drew pictures of different species and wrote about their physical characteristics, their behavior and since then I’m still dreaming of living near the sea and the animals. Esch day that dream is getting closer to come true. For now, I will continue seeking to create awareness in Mexico and the world through Orca Mexico on all digital platforms and through the people who collaborate in one way or another with us by being in direct contact with marine life and with the people that visit these amazing places in the World.

With the support of all of you, our followers and friends, this project has and will have an even greater impact. Thank you for helping to take care of our planet, we will be more and more people united making positive changes.

Thank you! 🙏🏻🐋🌊🦈🐠🐬

Manta and friends...

Giant (oceanic) mantas live predominantly solitary lives floating and flapping in the deep blue. Fortunately they have their cuddle buddies (aka remora and friends) to keep them company.

These gentle giants can get over 8m from wingtip to wingtip and weigh more than two tonnes, but somehow manage to glide around with the weightless grace of a Peruvian pole dancer (or so I'm told).

There is an ever increasing demand for manta gill rakers in Asian markets (which still confounds me beyond belief), which is why marine protected areas such as the Revillagigedos National park are so important right now.

Why do killer whales have big white patches near their eyes? 👁👁 Check out this infographic to read about the possible reasons!

Eye patches come in an array of shapes and sizes, and distinct forms of killer whales may have their own unique type of eye patch. Type Bs have exceptionally large patches, while type Ds have almost none at all. But why are there differences at all? Why don’t all killer whales have the same type of eye patch?

Traits can be the result of natural selection. For example, it has been suggested that the large eye patches of type B help them coordinate their movements when they use the “wave-wash” technique to knock seals off of ice floes.

But sometimes, the differences we see in the eye patch shape might not be due to anything except random chance. Genetic drift can result in some traits becoming more common in a population due to randomness rather than selective pressures. Perhaps this might explain some of the more subtle differences in eye patch shape, such as the slight angle of a transient eyepatch, or the common “hook” seen at the front end of a type 1 killer whale’s eye patch.

Blue whales. Balaenoptera musculus. One of the most amazing big animals I have ever seen. I’ll never forget the first time I saw one. I was just down from a summer of Alaska trips and had seen a lot of humpback whales. Loads of humpback whales. We were on our way into Ensenada from Guadalupe great white sharks when I saw 2 x 30 foot high “blows” in front of us as we approached the shallow underwater ridge (and feeding ground) off Baja. And then we saw the blue whales. The size was almost unfathomable. The back of the whale just went on and on and on until we saw the tiny dorsal fin at the back. All of a sudden, humpback whales shrank in our perception to being not much more than minnows. It was an experience I will never forget and once I started reading about the winter aggregation of blue whale mommas and calves off Loreto, I became determined to figure out how to share this amazing experience with our guests. Our first Baja Ultimate whale trip on our 116 expedition yacht, Gallant Lady, is just in and as the following videos attest, the experience was stunning.

“These Orcas, a mother and son, messed up while hunting for seals and got stuck!
They had to wait until the tide came back in, at which point they were able to swim off without injury!
These two have since been seen in the Salish Sea, and apparently the mother was with child’s the time of this video, as not long after a new daughter was present!”
