We are proud to announce that our multidisciplinary team has won the international competition for the new Main and Children’s Hospital of Brescia.

-

The landscape of the new Spedali Civili Hospital in Brescia is structured around the CareRing, a continuous green loop of more than one kilometre that serves as the project’s primary public and ecological infrastructure, as well as the organizing framework for the entire hospital campus.

The Green Ring reconnects the hospital campus with the city, giving spatial expression to the idea that human and environmental health are deeply interconnected.

We would like to thank, i di Brescia, ARIA, and the signatories of the Protocol of Understanding,,, and ATS for their trust and for the opportunity to contribute to such an important project for the future of the territory.
The new Main and Children’s Hospital of Brescia is conceived as a continuous landscape of care, where architecture, nature and city operate as a single integrated system.

The project reinterprets the historic radial structure of the Spedali Civili, originally designed by engineer Angelo Bordoni, as the generative framework for a renewed and adaptive healthcare campus. New hospital volumes and transformed existing pavilions are organised around this logic, creating clarity, proximity and long-term flexibility across the entire site.
The Main Hospital is structured as three interconnected wings opening towards the city and the Brescia Prealps, drawing light, air and landscape into the everyday spaces of care. At ground level, a continuous glazed lobby establishes a direct civic threshold, redefining the hospital as an accessible and legible public place.
Alongside it, the Children’s Hospital forms a distinct but connected environment, where terraces and courtyards become therapeutic gardens and nature is embedded into the experience of care.
At the scale of the campus, the Care Ring operates as a continuous urban infrastructure that organises mobility, logistics and public space. More than a boundary, it becomes a landscape device that reconnects the hospital with Brescia through green corridors, squares and therapeutic gardens designed to support wellbeing.
The project brings together architecture, landscape and technology into a single operational and spatial system, reflecting a vision of healthcare that is open, adaptable and deeply embedded in the life of the city. Rooted in Brescia, designed for the generations to come.

We are proud to announce that our multidisciplinary team has won the international competition for the new Main and Children’s Hospital of Brescia.

Developed by Park Associati, CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Politecnica Building for Humans with Openfabric, Dotdotdot, Studio Mattioli and Eckersley O’Callaghan, the project proposes a resilient and adaptable healthcare campus designed to respond to the evolving challenges of care, today and for generations to come.
Rather than conceiving the hospital as an isolated healthcare facility, the project reimagines it as an open civic infrastructure where care, research, education, landscape and public life become part of the same ecosystem.
Guided by the principles of One Health, the proposal builds on the historic legacy of the Spedali Civili to shape a new campus that reconnects healthcare with the city, bringing together architecture, landscape and innovation in a shared vision for the future of care.

We would like to thank, di Brescia, ARIA, and the signatories of the Protocol of Understanding,,, and ATS for their trust and for the opportunity to contribute to such an important project for the future of the territory.

Openfabric founder Francesco Garofalo will collaborate with Snøhetta and its international team of students and young professionals at Venice Studio.

The team will explore architectural and landscape interventions, sensitive to the natural habitat, that intersect and engage the Venetian lagoon, its islands and complex ecosystem in radical and generative ways. The team will ask: How can architecture and landscape design create public spaces of collective wonder, and can human intervention work with the natural environment and not against it?

Amadei Garden Street redefines the street as a shared public space, strengthening community ties and significantly reshaping the way residents feel about their city. The street is a small part of an enormous plan designed by Italian landscape architecture and urbanism firm Openfabric and commissioned by the city of Mantua. Openfabric collaborated with local architecture firm STUDIOSPAZIO for this project within a project.

The Piano del Verde (Urban Green Plan) is an inspiring and farranging concept for the entire comune (council) of Mantua, the capital of Lombardy in northern Italy. It is a belt of green protection wrapping the town and surrounding countryside and connecting the residents, not only to each other, but to the superb natural features of the region.
