Cotton arrived at the Ontario SPCA Durham Region Animal Centre after suffering a serious leg injury. After veterinary assessments, it was determined that an amputation would give her the best chance at a comfortable future. While she initially recovered well, her healing journey became more complicated when she began experiencing phantom limb pain.
With additional treatment, close monitoring, and plenty of patience, Cotton slowly began feeling more like herself again, adapting beautifully to life on three legs and proving just how resilient animals can be. Then came the perfect match. Her adopter is a physical therapist who works with individuals experiencing phantom limb pain, bringing a unique understanding of Cotton’s journey. The connection felt like fate.
Cotton’s story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the compassion of the people who help them along the way. Thanks to dedicated animal care teams, foster families and adopters, animals like Cotton are given the opportunity to begin their next chapter.
As a registered charity that does not receive annual government funding, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society depends on the generosity of donors to change the lives of animals like Cotton.
