In preparation for a future post to re-introduce one of the core gimmicks of this region, I have redrawn a few of the Fakemon lines from earlier on in the dex. Some received redesigns, but these are basically unchanged! I didn’t even bother changing the pose in Feralynx’s case.

I love fan made bat starters, big surprise, and this one was no exception. I liked the themes being set up (wind/hydro energy, umbrella/rain coat) so I built on that, alongside adding some vampire and cryptid elements to Whirlobolo. The yellow drawstrings (?) on Umbrelluge is now shaped like a cravat.
He would be good friends with my Blathavar I’m sure:)

While I wouldn’t mind another Blaziken-like final evo for Browt I would be really happy to see it evolve into a ratite, especially since Cassowaries are a thing in Indonesia. It would be a unique body type for a starter to have. What I don’t want is yet another Grass/Fighting type… we just got mega chesnaught and we already have an awesome bird starter with that type combo, Hisuian Decidueye. I put up a poll on my story for people to vote between Grass/Ground and Grass/Rock, and the Ground type was the winner.
To go along with the mythological theming I had going on with the other two, I of course wanted to at least partially base the final evo on Garuda, but I wanted to include a bit of a twist by having a secondary theming! Like with how Barkarong had partial European design motifs and Nagazure had Japanese theming, Desparuda is inspired by Australian culture, specifically bushrangers.
(Also in case there is confusion on Desparuda’s anatomy, it has wing arms that it usually has tucked into the “poncho” but in this key art it has one of its arms out)

I challenged myself to try and make a quadrupedal evolution line that still kinda slays 💅 for the whole line. I really want to see a quadrupedal lizard pokemon because, and this feels so wild, I’m pretty sure we don’t have any official final evo lizards that aren’t bipedal… correct me if I’m wrong.
Between last week and now I’ve seen way more speculation on what people think the starters are based on, what their theme is, etc. One that stood out was the idea that each starter is based on a Japanese art (sumo, calligraphy, geisha). I don’t know if I fully agree with this but I did really like the idea of a geisha-inspired evo for Gecqua so I tried incorporating that into Nagazure’s design (hence it wearing its shed skin as a kimono). I think it’s not unreasonable to think Game Freak would have at least one of the starters have some Japanese inspiration, especially since we are back in Asia. However the primary inspos for Nagazure is still rooted in Southeast Asian culture.
Side note, the middle evo was designed super quickly so its origins aren’t as deep as my usual output. But somehow I ended up really liking how it turned out lol, I think it’s super cute

Gecqua is my favourite of the Gen 10 starters for now but I got an idea for Pombon first so I went ahead and drew it to put it out there:)
The inspirations are kinda all over the place with this one but there were a bunch of ideas I wanted to cram in, including chakras (which would probably be the theme for my starter predictions), the spice trade (and European influences on SEA), and finally the Barong, which I’ve seen many people discuss as a potential inspiration for Pombon. And of course I had to make it Fire/Fairy type, it’s one of my most wanted unused type combos so I would be ecstatic if Pombon actually ends up evolving into something with this combo!

In addition to some obvious moves like Liquidation, Roar, Crunch, Thunder and Aqua Tail, Garorage can learn some fun moves like Play Rough, Haze, Rain Dance and Ice Punch!
Finally, the Aubito starter that went through the biggest design change! The original design for Garorage was made when I was honestly a bit tired of working on starter designs and wanted to move on, so it was rushed. 😅 I think the biggest sin of that design was not incorporating inspiration from Wasgo/Akhlut when this line is literally a Sea Wolf! Not sure what I was on back then. Now it finally has a solid concept and is a much needed indigenous representation among the starter trio. I would understand if you prefer the previous design, but personally I see this design as a huge improvement.
I hope my new followers enjoyed meeting my region’s mascots and old followers enjoyed seeing my art improve over the course of the past year:)

In addition to its signature move, Scorpyro learns a wide range of physical attacks and cool moves, like Iron Head, Iron Tail, Metal Burst, X-Scissor, Poison Jab, Burn Up, and Fell Stinger.
To reiterate what I said last year, I really love it when Pokémon evolutions are very drastic. With making a starter line based on bugs, whose drastic metamorphosis inspired the concept of Pokémon evolution in the first place, I wanted the base form (Pinchar) and final form (Scorpyro) to look almost completely different, kind of like a kid undergoing a superhero transformation!
This may not look like a big redesign at first glance, but if you compare this design from last year’s you will see it actually got simplified a bit. I think the first iteration of Scorpyro looked a little overdesigned and made it look like a legendary rather than a starter final evo. Other than that, one fun thing I added was to make the streaks of fire on its face look like a scar to give it more character:)

Blathavar can learn a plethora of nature-themed Special moves, such as Moonblast, Earth Power, and Petal Blizzard, as well as fun status moves like Aromatherapy, Worry Seed, Charm and Crafty Shield.
It can also learn basically all biting/Fang moves through level up, TMs and/or move tutor, which comes in handy as they benefit from its signature hidden ability.
Can you tell I was already really happy with how this line came out a year ago? 😄 Blathavar barely changed from the previous design, with the only big difference being the colour of its claws/talons. I really just wanted to update its pose to have more personality.

Befitting of its cold personality, Enshrowl learns a lot of “edgy” moves, including Aqua Cutter (upon evolving), Chilling Water, Assurance, Hone Claws, Slash, Snarl, Low Sweep, and Moonlight.
With the final evolution’s design change, I obviously had to adjust Enshrowl’s design to make it feel like a better transition stage between Loupour and it. I also thought the original design had a bit of a wacky anatomy so it was good to have the opportunity to redesign it! And yes, it is indeed flipping you off. lol
