Ello 👋
It’s probably fairly obvious due to a big ol’ radio silence but after months of deliberating, i’ve decided to close up shop on One Girl Band. It’s been my pride and joy for five years and i’m so incredibly proud of everything the community has achieved but it’s just come to a natural end. There’s not really much else to say. I had planned on doing a final episode but really, I don’t have any other words other than thank you; for believing in the things we did, for sharing our message about, for joining us at our events or at either of our Spaces, for your unwavering love and support. You were the linchpins of the entire operation and i’m forever indebted. I’m hoping to stay in the podcasting sphere (need a hand with yours? have a cool idea you wanna collab on? let me know troops) but for now, i’m going to focus on writing and getting back into design. I’ll keep most of our content up for as long as I can afford to and the podcast will stay up forever. Cheers gang, OGB x
graphic by, click through to their page to see the other slides. just because it’s no longer blackouttuesday, that doesn’t mean you can go pat yourself on the back for posting a black square and feel you’ve done your part. there is SO much more work to do. it is a daily action and the resources are right there, in black and white, for you to access and use. donate to the bail bonds, the mutual aid funds, the gofundme’s. sign the petitions. devour the wonderful books and films created by the Black community. diversify your feeds and where you spend your money. talk to your pals, your family, your colleagues or fellow freelancers- make it a part of your offline conversations just as much as your instagram captions. you do not need to ask Black people for help in your learning- google is your friend. there is no excuse. yes, learning is uncomfortable. there’s an instinct to put your defensives up and run away but this is not about you. keep the momentum. this is a movement, not a moment.
It would be an understatement to say that things are scary at the moment. The only thing I know is that as small business owners/the self employed/entrepreneurs, we’re all going to need a helping hand over the foreseeable, and that in amongst the mess, we need to stick together and support one another. So, just like our Promote Yourself posts on our FB group, comment below with how we can help support you right now. Whether it’s buying a gift card for your brick-and-mortar shop, purchasing a download, offering your services/pitching commissions or just simply sharing your work, put it in the comments below and let’s cheer each other on. Community is going to be the thing that gets us through this. Sending you so much love- if you’re struggling, please don’t hesitate to send a DM to chat x
This week's guest on the #ogbpodcast is the superb. She's a business design coach who helps people make their daydream their day-job and create the business they were made for. We talked about:
- Kerry’s journey from graphic designer, stationery designer, mother to coach.
- Dealing with fear and being uncomfortable, and differentiating between the two.
- Her frank and honest experience with Kickstarter and navigating that self-promotion beast.
There are honestly so many gems scattered throughout this ep so do give it a listen. Thanks as always to our cheerleaders on Patreon and our wonderful sponsors!
For when you’re just a little bit overwhelmed- breathe, snack, go back. We’re back with our first guest of the year, the wonderful, an illustrator and wedding creative based in North London. Bee and I spoke about:
- Breaking out of the mould that art school creates.
- How her illustrated jackets became well known, figuring out her niche. - Navigating the wedding industry as a creative, dealing with client feedback.
- Dealing with comparison and identity crises whilst being your own boss.
- Allowing yourself to take breaks in times of struggle.
Listen on all the usual podcast platforms (, etc) and don't forget to share around with your self-employed pals too. As usual, a huge thank you to our Patreon supporters and for sponsoring 👏
Hello. We’re back(ish). After a few months away, we’ll be back in your earholes and eyeholes soon. For now, sign up to our Patreon to get the first episode of the year now before the general public release on Friday, and to catch our new Dear OGB feature. It’s an agony aunt-esque column where Lola gives her insight into any challenges you might be facing in business, or really, life in general (because it’s all merged into one at this point, huh?). If you’re struggling with motivation, feeling the pinch around money or just need some cheerleading to get you through the zig-zag that is self-employment, send your dilemmas to and we’ll try to give you a hand. A thousand thank yous, as always, for your support and love; we can’t wait to be back all shiny and new.

Getting back into the swing of things with our Monday Spotlight on a One Girl Band who is killing it at the moment. Siobhan of uses defective second-hand denim she sources from charity shops, vintage sellers, recycling centres and online hauls and creates stylish workwear jackets for all genders, all sizes and all ages. Based in her studio at the Barras in Glasgow, she’s creating some incredible work whilst doing some good. Go say hello!
So, a few unexpected changes have popped up over the last couple of weeks- hence the radio silence. Unfortunately, we're having to leave our current Space due to a rent increase that would’ve meant us raising our membership fees to an inaccessible amount, and that’s not what we’re about. A little bit heartbroken and frustrated (especially as we were in this position 9 months ago), but if this year has taught us anything it’s that things happen for a reason and that it will work out. This isn’t the end in any way — OGB existed before the Space and will continue to do so — we’ll just be focusing on our events, online community and resources such as the podcast, online courses and monthly letters for now. Thank you for sticking around, team. Here’s to 2020 💪
