Exterior lighting, I can count how many exterior lights I like on one hand. These from are both fun and classic, we’ve already placed them at 2 other projects and looking forward to the exterior coming together with them.
For those drawn to midcentury architecture, Los Angeles is a remarkable canvas—something and know well. The duo has built their practice,, around carefully restoring the city’s rich collection of historic residences and fashioning unhurried interiors buoyed with sculptural furnishings and nuanced material palettes that humanize the architecture. That approach underpinned their recent renovation of a distinctive 1960s home, originally by architect Whitney R. Smith of Smith & Williams, tucked into a secluded pocket of Nichols Canyon in Los Angeles. With clever interventions and sly references to Milan’s Villa Necchi Campiglio, they successfully reawakened the 3,300-square-foot home’s spatial drama and sense of openness.

Everyone’s been asking for a home renovation update, and honestly, if you knew everything happening in my life right now, you’d probably be proud I even got this video out.

No matter how much preparation or experience you have, there are always delays, pivots, and unexpected decisions in a renovation this big. And alas, with 10 other renovations happening at once — including our office — this home has definitely fallen to the bottom of the priority list… but we’re making it happen.

Next up:
• hardwood floors
• tile installation (which will largely be our terrazzo collaboration with )
• millwork… and that’s when it really starts to come to life.

And yes… I already have a few regrets. Should I share them?

What looks effortless is never by accident—behind it are months of details, discussions, and debates. This moment marks both a celebration and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the home’s new owner.

Originally a Smith & Williams property, this home sits among the remarkable mid-century residences of Upper Nichols Canyon—an enclave known as “The Colony.” It offered the ideal foundation: a true expression of modernism, layered with playful Googie influences.
From the beginning, it was the composition that drew us in—circular fixed windows, triangular rooflines, and repeating geometric moments that felt almost rhythmic, like jazz. We leaned into that language, introducing an eclectic new front door, glass block elements, and classic post-and-beam glass walls, alongside subtle European influences in our color and material choices. A defining moment: the spiral staircase—soft cream on the exterior, with a vibrant, unexpected underbelly.

Grateful to everyone who contributed to this project—and to those who followed along and engaged with the process. That includes you.
