Five was the hardest for me… I’m impatient 😅

1. 😍 Only buy things you LOVE
If it’s a maybe, it’s a no.
Pay attention to your first reaction when you see something on the shelf & if you don’t love it instantly, leave it.

2. 📦 Think about storage
Seasonal decor has to live somewhere for 11 months of the year. If it’s huge, fragile, or awkward to store it’s probably not worth it.

3. 🔜 Buy out of season
The best trick!
Shops reduce seasonal items just days after the event. The Easter egg “ice cream truck” in this display was only £6 a few days after Easter and I’m obsessed.

4. 🤔 Use what you already have
The hydrangeas in this display are artificial flowers I already had in vases around the house. Moving them here gives the whole display a wow factor without buying anything new.

5. 🕰️ Build it over time
This display is six years of picking up one or two things I really love each year.
You don’t need to spend a fortune all at once. Time passes quicker than you think.

But there’s a secret hidden under the stairs 👀✨

Would your child love this?

🍂 Autumn glow-up on the kitchen island🧡
I couldn’t resist bringing a bit of autumn magic to the island. Pumpkins, hydrangeas, lights and all the cosy feels. There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to hibernate with a mug of something warm (or glass of something cold) and just enjoy the glow ✨

Anyone else loving the cosy storm? 🍁

Disclaimer, I LOVE my kitchen & it’s one of my favourite rooms. However, hindsight’s a great thing & if I could design it again here’s what I’d change.

1. Include a built in space for the microwave. I love a clear worktop space & we don’t use ours much so it would look better out of sight.

2. Have a built in waste bin. Again, not the end of the world but having our bin next to the island doesn’t look quite right. That being said I’m glad I don’t have to clean a built in one out 🗑️.

3. Go darker with the island paint. We went darker than the cupboards and it looks great, but I think an even darker paint would’ve contrasted better 🏝️.

Our house ‘glow up’ wasn’t just the interior, we did a lot of work on the exterior too. Parts of the house date back to the 1800’s so that’s over 200 years worth of dirt on the stonework. A lot of the shrubs were overgrown and I wasn’t keen on the dark wood windows.

We sandblasted all the stone, replaced the windows with a brighter cream frame, drastically cut the garden back and also took down some garden walls.

Don’t get me wrong, I kind of like the bottom photo, it’s got a creepy/fairytale charm about it but also looks a bit grubby so I’m glad we did all the exterior work to bring the house into this century and give it a bit of a facelift.
