The celebratory setting of the Offertory text from Psalm 68, Confirma hoc Deus, was written by Antonio Salieri in 1809 for Pentecost; for context, 1809 is also the year construction began on our Cathedral! Originally for orchestra and choir, it is representative of the elegant sacred music he wrote as the Austrian imperial Kapellmeister from 1788 to 1824; he was responsible for music at the court chapel and attached school. Our Communion motet was written by the Venetian master Andrea Gabrieli and published in Venice by Gardano in 1576. This four-voice motet sets the Pentecost Vespers antiphon for the Magnificat, Hodie completi sunt (“Today the days of Pentecost are fulfilled”). Andrea traveled to Munich in 1562, and traded compositional ideas with Lassus and others; the influence of that experience can be heard in the music, fit for the grand setting of St. Mark’s in Venice, where Andrea was organist and choirmaster until his death in 1585. Andrea was the teacher of his nephew Giovanni, Hans Leo Hassler, and other prominent musicians in Italy and Germany. Music continues in the comments. ⬇️
Because an infinite longing can only be filled by an infinite Love.
As St. Augustine reminds us, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. And the One your heart has been searching for is already here… waiting for you!
Not distant.
Not symbolic.
But truly Present.
Jesus – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity – giving Himself completely in the Eucharist.
Come sit with Him and bring Him your joy, your wounds, your questions, your tired heart.
He has been waiting for you all along.

After Mass, I asked Fr. Daniel Ray, LC, the pastor, about his vision and plan for the parish. His answer was pure wisdom:
“This resurgence of faith we’re seeing among young people — not just here in New York City but across the country — isn’t the fruit of some clever marketing plan we came up with. It’s the action of the Holy Spirit. My plan? To watch what God is already doing… and support it.”
What a powerful reminder for all of us. Too often we try to control outcomes and force God’s will into our timelines and strategies. But the better path is to observe: Where is He giving consolation? Where desolation? Where is fruit clearly being borne? Then align our hearts and wills behind what He is already permitting and doing. And when we don’t see it, wait patiently until it is clear.
Beautiful lesson from a pastor living it out in one of NYC’s historic parishes. Grateful to be part of this movement of the Spirit. 🔥

After more than two years of restoration, this magnificent historic instrument will be seen and heard in all its splendor.
For the first time in more than a century, the original artwork adorning the organ’s pipes will be revealed. Discovered during the restoration, the artwork, signed “PS Keeler Painter Nov 5 1868,” was meticulously reproduced. Taken together, the Erben organ is a visual and sonic masterpiece that resonates with us today and into the future.
The evening’s program will feature a concert inspired by the rich musical heritage of the Old Cathedral, with special guest musicians and members of the Basilica Schola, led by, Organist and Music Director, performing in the breathtaking setting of the Old Cathedral.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to reserve exclusive loft seating beside the Erben Organ for a rare and intimate listening experience, followed by a private reception at the Parish House.
This special fundraiser will support the organ’s final restoration phase, and help preserve and expand the Basilica’s vibrant music program for generations to come.
