To me winter is a season worth embracing, and the Lake District is one of the best places to do it, especially if you don't have a car!
I recently spent a long weekend there only using public transport, and the beauty and ease blew me away.
I chose to book the train to Windermere through the TrainPal app.
They have an in-app price match guarantee and no booking fees to help you find a great deal.
New users can use the code KNIGHT for 5% off EU & UK tickets, 20% off railcards, and a £10 welcome pack.
Using public transport in winter also removes all the stress, danger, and disruption that comes with winter driving.
Visiting the Lake District in winter also comes with it's own perks
• Accommodation is less expensive and can be reserved at the last minute.
• Popular locations are wonderfully quiet
• Longer nights allow for early evening stargazing
• Sunrises and sunsets seem to have that extra bit of drama
• Chance of seeing the Lakes under a dusting of snow
Once you're there you can use the extensive bus network and your own two feet to explore to your heart's content.

Welcome to the Lookout Bothy which is located on the northern tip of the Isle of Skye, on the west coast of Scotland.
Its a tiny building, with a panoramic bay window, perched on the edge of a cliff, on the edge of the island, on what feels like the edge of the world.
Built in 1928, The lookout used to a be a former coastguard station and has retained much of its history and charm.
It is filled with trinkets from yesteryear and has panoramic bay window which looks out towards the outer Hebrides.
The building is now bothy, which is essentially a wilderness shelter, devoid of basic amenities. The lookout has two main rooms and has bunkbeds that sleep 3.
Free to stay in, bothies have no reservation system and operate on first come first serve served.
The only rules is that you leave no trace and respect the building, environment, and people that stay there.
I journeyed here last week and spent the night alone.
Would you stay in a place like this?

So have launched #ExpeditionImpossible, challenging people to find the edge of the Earth.
If you do, they’ll give you everything owned by the company.
Now I’m not a flat earther… but if the edge of the world does exist here in the UK, I feel like it would be on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland.
An island off an island, the Isle of Skye is a place like no other.
Home to jagged mountains rising straight from the sea. Rock formations that look like they’re from another planet, and waterfalls that just don’t believe in land.
However there is one place on Skye which really feels like the edge of the map.
The Lookout Bothy.
A tiny building, with a panoramic bay window, perched on the edge of a cliff, on the edge of the island, on what feels like the edge of the world.
So, if I have found the edge of the Earth, then does that make this the new CEO?

Via the CMD arête in full winter
Conditions (without trending audio)
Some cinematic locked off camera footage from my recent solo hike up Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.
I filmed thise clips for my vlog(which will soon be on YouTube) but i thought they are too good not to post on here.
I ascended Ben nevis via the CMD arete which is the most difficult and adventurous hiking route up to the summit of the UKs highest mountain.
Its a 21km route which summits two munros, navigates one of the beat ridges in Scotland and involves over 1,300m of elevation gain.
It was easily one of the best winter hiking days i have had in the mountains which was topped off by an epic sunset.

The Glenfinnan Viaduct under a coating of Snow.
This railway viaduct is located at the top of Loch Shiel in the Western Scottish Highlands.
Glenfinnan Viaduct has been used as a location in several films and television series, the most famous of which being four of the Harry Potter films.
Unfortunately the Hogwarts express was running at this time of year.
Regardless of the weather or time of year, this is a place you have to stop and visit if you are in the Scottish highlands. The viaduct is easily accessible via a half hour drive from Fort William.

Insane sunset scenes from the summit of Ben Nevis, Scotland's and the Uks highest mountain.
I Summited Ben nevis via the CMD Arete and stuck around untill sunset and it didn't disappoint.
It was cloudy all day but the sun manged sneak out beneath the clouds and light up the peaks of the Scottish Highlands.
What was even more incredible was that fact there was no wind, and 3 of us up the summit.
Another incredible solo winter adventure and memories which will last a lifetime.

Honestly up there with of the best days hiking in the mountains i have ever had.
Full winter conditions, barely a breath of wind, and unbelievable views over the Scottish Highlands.
Not even a broken drone could put a downer on the day.
This is the third time i have summited Ben Nevis via the CMD arête and it never disappoints.
It's easily the best hiking route to the summit of Ben Nevis and arguably one of the best day/ ridge hikes in Scotland.
Two munros, one epic ridge walk and mind blowing views over the mountains of Scotland, whats not to like!
Winter in Scotland is on another level!

Its essential is to wear and pack layers, and manage them throughout your hike.
You want to stay comfortable, warm, and dry without working up too much of sweat
I always carry 4 layers for my top half in winter 👇
1. Base Layer
· Wicks sweat off your skin and keeps you dry
· Should be breathable, moisture wicking, and quick-drying.
· Opt for a synthetic material or Merino wool. Avoid cotton
✨My choice: Columbia Tech Trail Utility Technical T-Shirt
2. Mid layer ♨️
· Insulates and keeps you warm.
· Ideally it should be Synthetic or Wool, lightweight, and not too bulky
Fleece, jumper, or hoodie
· I prefer a hooded mid layer with a zip as I can regulate my body temperature without taking my jacket off
✨My choice: Columbia Arctic Crest Technical Fleece Jacket
3. Outer Shell 🌧️
· Protects you from the wind and the rain
· It should be waterproof and have a hood.
· Look for adjustable hood, cuffs, and hem, alongside pit zips
✨My choice: Columbia Reign No Shine Jacket or Ampli Dry
4. Insulated Jacket 🧥
- starts in my backpack and comes out when I stop for food, reach a summit, or if conditions deteriorate
- It should be warm, lightweight, and compressible so it doesn't take up too much space.
- these aren't waterproof, so it needs to be small enough to fit under your outer shell
My choice: Columbia Arctic Crest Hooded down jacket
Lower Half 🦵
1. Synthetic or merino pants and socks,
2. Softshell hiking trousers; they will be fleece lined if it’s really cold
3. Waterproof Overtrousers. These sit in my backpack and I put them on if the weather deteriorates or if I'm feeling cold.
✨My choice: Columbia Tech Softshell Trousers

Ben Vane is A Must Do Hike in Loch Lomond
Short by Scottish Highland standards but absolutely mighty in personality, Ben Vane is a wee terrier of a mountain. Steep, rocky and stubborn all the way up, with a few cheeky false tops thrown in for good measure.
It is just high enough to scrape Munro status and more than happy to make you work for it. The grind is well worth the reward, with the summit delivering epic panoramic views looking north and sweeping right across Loch Lomond.
Definitely add this hike to your list if you are passing through Loch Lomond or visiting the Scottish Highlands.
Hike details
- 12km Out and back
- Hard
- Elevation gain: 950 m
- 4 to 7 hours
- Parking: Inveruglas Visitor Centre

1.The view of Pen Y Fan from Cribyn.
2. A drone shot of Cribyn at sunrise
3. A drone shot of Cribyn in front of Pen y Fan
4. Me Happy as a pig in sh*t
You honestly cant beat the mountains when they are covered in snow. It's easily my favourite season to go hiking.
Also lucky to have the Brecon Beacons less than an hours drive away. Theya rent the tallest or the most rugged mountains in the UK, but boy they are beautiful.
