This is not a complete list, but it’s a start. A dietitian (like me!) can help personalize, individualize, and simplify ways to access food and create meals.

Many have been struggling with the increased cost of groceries and basic goods. Approximately 42 MILLION Americans may lose their food assistance (SNAP) benefits due to the government shutdown. Save and share these tips - you never know who may benefit from them - whether they receive SNAP benefits or not. Food insecurity affects everyone, we should be working towards protecting and feeding our neighbors and community.

SNAP provides food assistance to working unemployed or low income individuals and families, seniors, differently abled individuals. I see the importance of these benefits in the work I do as a dietitian to help individuals eat and nourish themselves. I personally benefited from SNAP benefits when I was working full time as an unpaid dietetic intern for a year and I personally know that while the assistance I received didn’t cover the entirety of my groceries, it helped immensely.
Labneh + Za’atar 🌱

One of my favorite additions to my breakfast routine is Labneh topped with Za’atar and of course, my favorite Italian Olive Oil.

Bonus: Labneh is a Middle Eastern soft cheese made from strained yogurt and is a popular addition to breakfast in the Levant. Cultures around the globe have versions of strained yogurt, from Chakka + Suzma in Central/South Asia and Mâst Chekide in Iran, Süzme Yoğurt in Turkey, and Matzoon in Armenia. It is rich (and delicious) vegetarian source of protein and calcium ❤️

Calma ❤️ Self-Care Sunday

What does self-care mean to you? It’s a term commonly thrown around that can often be misunderstood. Self-Care encompasses empowering oneself to care for your own physical/mental/emotional/spiritual well-being. Since our individual needs are so unique, this can look different for everyone.

For me, self-care is a quiet moment to myself (even if it’s 5 minutes) to reflect and ground myself - most often with a cup of coffee 😂. Self-care can also look like: going for a walk, reading a book, spending time with loved ones, cleaning your home, going to a therapist, getting a wellness checkup, taking a break from electronics/social media, eating a nourishing meal, getting enough sleep. What do you do for self-care?

Bonus: Self-care has been shown to improve a variety of health outcomes. It often reduces stress, can help prevent burnout, and priorities our own well-being (which is never selfish). Setting time aside and planning moments (whether for 5 minutes or an hour) each day to prioritize your needs can have a positive impact ❤️

Ma Prima, un Caffè ☕️

Monday mornings call for a little extra self care ☕️ sent us, a beautiful + rich coffee from Napoli - which is the closest we can get to a trip to Italy (for now) 💙 It got our morning off to an incredible start! What is your Monday morning ritual?

Bonus: This is an Italian stovetop coffee pot called the Giannina. One of the first stovetop coffee makers, (designed by Alfonso Bialetti) the Moka Express, is named after the city of Mocha in Yemen which was central to the coffee trade ☕️

Insalata di Estate ☀️

It’s been about a year since my last post so I wanted to say ciao! and share something delicious (and maybe it will be seen by someone if my algorithm/reach hasn’t been completely destroyed haha!)

Over the past year I’ve been keeping busy - I started my Private Practice + got burned out of working in a hospital post pandemic + Moved out of Brooklyn ✈️. Now it is time to focus on self care & celebrate it all with one of my favorite simple + fresh summer salads!!

How to make: Combine Arugula and Cooked/Drained/Chilled Chickpeas (or make it easy on yourself + used canned!), add Quartered Figs, Crumbled Feta, Crushed Pistachio. Toss together & drizzle with Italian Olive Oil and lemon or balsamic for a little acidity 👌🏽

Bonus: Chickpeas are used heavily in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Indian cuisines - and with great reason! They are a rich in both protein and fiber, which keeps you full/satiated longer + helps keep your blood sugar in check. They’re also a good source of iron and zinc, minerals that are more abundant in animal products - so they’re a nutritious plant-based replacement!

Insalata di Fichi + Feta con Pistacchi 🌿

It’s so warm in NYC which is perfect for refreshing salads (because who wants to cook?!) Figs are one of my favorite addition to dishes this time of year and so happy when I can find them in the market. What are your favorite salad additions?

How to make: Combine lettuce (I used butter lettuce) with sliced figs, crumbled feta (you can also use Gorgonzola or fresh mozzarella) with crumbled pistachios or walnuts. Top with a good Italian olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh rosemary, and sea salt to taste👨🏻‍🍳

Bonus: For as much love as I have for Extra Virgin Olive Oil, I don’t talk about its health benefits enough - probably because there is SO MUCH to talk about. Olive oil is rich in Monounsaturated Fats (MUFAs) that have been found to improve heart health and may benefit blood sugar control. It is also rich in Phenols and Vitamin E which have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties 💚 But did you know that not all Olive Oils are created equal? Research shows that many on the market are adulterated/not 100% pure + may be mixed with other oils (the nerve)! So know your supplier! Some of my favorites are at (and everything else they have there)

Insalata Caprese 🍅🌱

It’s becoming warmer(ish) in NYC and this salad makes everything feel like Summer. The Caprese Salad is very simple but incredibly delicious and healthy; the quality of ingredients elevate it. I use heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, fresh local basil, and my favorite Italian olive oil, Il Tratturello From +

How to make: Combine sliced Heirloom Tomatoes, Sliced Fresh Mozzarella with Fresh Basil, and Drizzle with a good Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Top with sea salt and pepper (and oregano if you’re into it) to taste + serve: Simple, perfect 👨🏻‍🍳

Bonus: Mozzarella is an incredible source of Protein, Calcium, Phosphorus, and Potassium - all of which contribute to bone health/strength ❤️

Insalata di Pompelmi e Cetrioli con Menta + Feta 🌱

The sun is finally shining in NYC and it’s perfect weather for refreshing + bright salads. This is a favorite and combines refreshing grapefruit + cucumbers with mint and feta.

How to make: Combine Grapefruit pieces and sliced Cucumber, slivers of Red Onion with chopped mint and crumbled Feta. You can also use Orange in place of Grapefruit if that’s all you have! Top with a good Italian olive oil (I used Il Tratturello From + ) S+P, and honey to taste (optional). Creates a perfect side dish or a light meal👨🏻‍🍳

Bonus: Not only is Grapefruit a refreshing citrus fruit, it’s loaded with water, fiber, and immune-boosting Vitamin C. Some studies show it aids in weight loss and blood sugar control. It’s a rich source if antioxidants and is perfect on its own or in salads or with grilled fish + chicken ❤️

Insalata di Zucca con Melograno e Feta 🌱

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring (finally)!!! But in NYC today it feels like both Spring AND Winter so this salad seemed like the perfect fit!

How to make: Cube squash (I used butternut), mix with olive oil, S+P (I also added thyme because I can’t get enough of it!) and roast on a baking sheet at 400F for about 35 minutes until cooked to taste. Combine with pomegranate arils, feta cheese (ricotta salata also works!) and chopped fresh parsley. Top with a good olive oil and enjoy! For something more filling, add grilled chicken or roasted chickpeas👨🏻‍🍳

Bonus: in addition to being delicious, Pumpkin + Butternut Squash are both great sources of Beta Carotene/Vitamin A which is a fat-soluble (putting that olive oil to great use) vitamin that is important factor in eye/vision health ❤️

Broccoli Arrostiti con Feta Piccante 🥦🔥

Feta Pasta has had it’s day. Who else has refuses to treat pasta this way? 🙋🏻‍♀️ This Roasted Broccoli with Spicy Feta dish is a perfect + easy way to use all of that leftover feta! (Plus, it’s delicious)

How To Make: Coat pan with olive oil, add feta to center of the pan, arrange frozen broccoli around the feta, drizzle everything w olive oil, sprinkle with salt + hot pepper (optional -oregano also works for something less spicy). Bake up to 50 minutes for 400F. I like to broil mine at the end to make it extra crispy). Mix + Serve. Check out the reels for a rundown!👨🏻‍🍳

Bonus: Frozen veggies are not only generally cheaper but they are just as fresh (generally even fresher) than their non-frozen counterparts. Frozen veggies are picked at their prime and flash frozen, other veggies may sit on a plane/truck/grocery shelf for a while before they get to your kitchen. They’re super handy because they don’t go bad as quickly, creating less waste ❤️
