Your Ask a Nurse question:
“My exclusively breastfed 8 week old has really watery poop… is that normal?”
The answer is usually yes 🤍
Breastfed baby poop is often
💛 Yellow or mustard colored
💩 Loose, watery, or seedy
✨ Sometimes explosive
😅 Sometimes after every feed
We often see looser and more frequent poops early on because breastmilk is incredibly easy to digest and, in fact, acts as a natural laxative.
Add in a little formula and poops may shift in color or consistency too. Regardless of how your baby is fed, yellows, greens, and browns are all generally part of the normal poop rainbow 🌈
So what isn’t normal?
🚩 Blood in the stool
🚩 White, pale, chalky, or clay-colored poop
🚩 Newborn poop that goes back to black after those early meconium stools
🚩 Copious mucus PLUS fussiness, poor feeding, or poor weight gain
🚩 Signs of dehydration like fewer wet diapers
And while we’re here… frequency can vary wildly too 😅
Some breastfed newborns poop after every feed 💥
Others may go several days without pooping once they’re a little older.
It’s wild because some babies poop 4–5 times a day while others poop every 4–5 days… and both can be normal.
This is why we always say when it comes to newborn poop, we look at the whole baby 👶
Ask yourself… is your baby:
✨ Eating well
✨ Peeing regularly
✨ Gaining weight
✨ Overall content after feeds
When it comes to newborn poop, normal is a pretty wide range 😅
And if you’re ever unsure, you can always ask us on our Ask a Nurse board or message your pediatrician 🤍
And, let’s add ensuring that all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are up to code AND working properly.
I was shocked when came to our house and found the almost all of our smoke detectors were expired or not working as we thought they would be!
This is something you can ask your partner or family to do, or outsource it. Either way, add it to your pre-baby check list of must-dos!

Here’s the why behind what’s on my nightstand:
If you’re breastfeeding ➡️ TROVE
You can wear it on one side while your baby nurses on the other to catch letdown instead of soaking through a pad or your shirt.
It also has a stopper, so you can leave the milk right on your nightstand and deal with it in the morning.
This is especially helpful in the early days when you’re engorged, or when your baby is doing those smaller, more frequent feeds and only nursing on one side.
You can also use it if you wake up and your baby is still sleeping. Take a little off to relieve pressure so you can actually fall back asleep and be more comfortable for the next feed.
If you’re bottle feeding ➡️ Bottle + FROSH
Bring up that breastmilk on your nightstand so it’s ready to pour into the bottle for your baby’s overnight feed. Or, you can use it to keep your TROVE collection cold in the middle of the night.
If you’re formula feeding ➡️ Bottle + TRIFUL
Before bed, measure out your formula into TRIFUL and have your water ready in the bottle.
When your baby wakes up, you open, pour, shake, and feed. No getting out of bed. No measuring half asleep.
And here’s the thing about nights with a newborn…
They are long.
By the time you wake up, feed, change, and try to settle your baby, it can feel like you’ve been up forever.
So anything that saves you even a few steps matters.
Especially if it keeps you in bed and helps you get back to sleep faster.
Your future 2am self will thank you for this setup.
What helped you most with your postpartum bod? Here are 4️⃣ (plus one bonus) tips:
👗Buy new clothes! Your clothes are supposed to fit you, you aren’t supposed to fit in your clothes. I don’t know when it became acceptable to only purchase new clothes for your changing pregnant body and not your changing postpartum body, but im not here for that shit! Buy clothes that make you feel good in your body!
💅🏻 In place of or in additional to recognizing the things you don’t like about your body, try and find the things you do like about your body or at least feel neutral about. For me, that’s always my hair (well before I lost it all PP 🤪), my nails, and my lips!
🪞Try and replace the negative self talk with something more positive but believable. It’s not feasible to replace “I hate my body” with “I love my body” but it might be feasible to replace it with “I appreciate what my body has given me”
👯♀️ Avoid surrounding yourself with people IRL or online that don’t make you feel good about your body and make you feel like you should look a certain way. That may mean setting boundaries or having difficult conversations with a tricky family member or friend. That may mean unfollowing certain accounts on social media or setting filters to avoid certain content. Then seek out people who have a more positive or realistic view of their body’s postpartum, or follow accounts of people who have the same body type as you.
And if all else fails, ask yourself and your loved ones to name the top 5 things you love most about yourself and they love most about you, and I guarantee you not one of those 5 things will be anything related to your appearance ❤️

Let’s pack a diaper bag together because leaving the house with a baby should not feel like a full production.
Here’s what I always make sure is inside:
🍼 The basics:
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Aquaphor for baby’s butt and your lips… just no double dipping 😅
- Hand sanitizer
👶 Backup plan:
- An extra outfit for baby
- A shirt for you too because spit up happens 🤍
🧼 The messy stuff:
- Burp cloth
- Pacifier
🍼 Feeding on the go:
- Bottle with water
If you’re formula feeding:
- Boon TRIFUL pre-filled with formula (it keeps feeds organized so you can make a bottle anywhere, no mess 🙌)
If you’re breastfeeding:
- Boon FROSH with pumped milk (it keeps breastmilk cold and safe while you’re out 🧊)
And don’t forget about yourself:
- Water bottle
- Snack 🍫
Because a hungry, dehydrated parent is not having a good time either.
You do not need everything.
You just need the right things.
Save this so you’re not repacking your diaper bag every time you leave the house!
That means soothing before feeding, so we can work towards longer, more predictable sleep stretches. When the baby sleep, we’re helping clean bottles, pump parts, and fold that never-ending pile of laundry.
Every morning, you wake up to detailed notes about how the night went. Plus, as part of our overnight care, you’ll get weekly check-ins with a family nurse practitioner to tailor and adjust the plan as your baby grows.
This isn’t a quick fix. It’s expert support with real results.

We’re Jamie & Emily, Registered Nurses & IBCLCs. We started NAPS after hearing the same question over and over again when we were working as labor & delivery nurses in the hospital: “Can you come home with me?”
So... we did!
What started as two nurses showing up for new parents with in-home care has turned into something so much bigger.
NAPS is a one-stop-support system for every stage of parenting. Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, sleep-deprived, combo feeding, or managing toddler meltdowns, we’re here with practical, judgement-free support that is ACTUALLY supportive.
We provide overnight nursing care, lactation support, private consults, group classes, and an all-access membership that gives you unlimited access to our team of nurses and doulas.
As parents, we frankly started NAPS to give the care we wish we’d had ourselves. No shame. No judgment. Just real help from real people who actually give a sh*t about you and your family.
