About Father de Souza:
In addition to his priestly ministry, Father de Souza teaches at Queen's in the Department of Economics, is a Senior Fellow of Massey College at the University of Toronto.
He is a Senior Fellow at Cardus, Canada's leading Christian think tank, and serves on the board of directors of Catholic Christian Outreach and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. In 2014 he was appointed Chair of the Advisory Council to the Office of Religious Freedom in the Canadian foreign affairs department, and from 2011 to 2014 he served as a consultant to the religious liberty committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Described by papal biographer George Weigel as "Canada's finest Catholic commentator", Father de Souza writes regular columns for several publications: the National Post, the National Catholic Register, the Catholic Herald, and the Catholic Register. Since co-founding it in 2011, he has been editor-in-chief of Convivium, an online Canadian magazine about faith in our common life.
Father de Souza studied economics and political studies (BA Hons.) and public policy (MPA) at Queen's University before doing graduate study in development economics (MPhil) at the University of Cambridge in England. His seminary formation was completed at St. Philip's Seminary in Toronto (Bachelor of Thomistic Thought) and at the Pontifical North American College in Rome (STB, Pontifical Gregorian University; STL, Pontifical University of the Holy Cross).
For the Jubilee Year of Mercy (2016), Father de Souza was appointed a Missionary of Mercy by Pope Francis, an appointment that was extended indefinitely in 2017.

This prestigious honour recognizes the student who best embodies the spirit, values, and character of Notre Dame founder, Father Athol Murray. Out of an impressive 62 nominations submitted by Notre Dame staff and students, Lana was selected as this year’s recipient. Congratulations to Lana and all the nominees!
The award was presented on May 15 at St. Augustine Church, marking the opening day of Allapodreda – Alumni and Friends Weekend. Hound alum Richard Dukes ’57, with special introductions from Tom Shoebridge ’62 and Bill Liskowich ’63, presented Lana with the award before a full gathering of Hounds, staff, alumni, and guests.
The moment was met with a thunderous ovation, celebrating a truly deserving recipient.

The Notre Dame Hockey Office is pleased to announce the signing of three returning Hounds moving to the U19 Prep Hounds program for the 2026-27 season.
Rhyan Fraser (Wainwright, AB) played all 30 league games for the Hounds last season and will bring her two-way play to the U19 Prep team, contributing at both ends of the ice.
Brynn Hanna (Rocanville, SK) also played all 30 league games for the Hounds last season, scoring once and adding five assists. Hanna's ability to play as both a forward and a defender will make her a valuable asset to the U19 Prep Hounds this season.
Jozee Weichel (Odessa, SK) played 28 league games for the Hounds last season. Weichel made it tough for opponents in her own end last season, and will be counted on to provide sound defensive coverage for the U19s this season.
Congratulations Rhyan, Brynn and Jozee. Great to have you back as part of the launch of this exciting addition to the Hounds hockey profile.

The Notre Dame Hockey Office is pleased to announce the signing of forward Fyona Meagher to the newly created U19 Prep Hounds program.
Meagher (Calgary, AB) joins the Hounds from the Calgary Glaciers 16U program in the FSL. The right-shot forward was among the team scoring leaders last season, scoring eight goals and adding nine assists in 39 league and playoff games. Meagher served as an alternate captain in each of the last two seasons and brings an edge to her game.
Her favourite players are Sidney Crosby and Hounds alum Jordan Eberle, having attended Eberle’s annual camps early in her hockey career.
She’s looking forward to the Notre Dame experience elevating her game to a new level, and is excited to develop new lifelong friendships.
Congratulations, Fyona. We’re looking forward to having you join us in September.
