Winter is hotpot season! So I went to check out this HK-style hotpot in Richmond Hill. The wait was soo longg (3 hours 😭) but it’s a unique experience that’s worth a try.
Here’s everything I got:
• shaoxing wine drunken chicken soup base 🐓 - comes with a generous amount of chicken, though the flavour could’ve been richer. I didn’t really taste the wine
• osmanthus clam - must try! So fresh and the texture is crunchy
• beef rib - all the slices are hand cut and super thin! Tender, slightly fatty meat from the sides of the beef spine. (it’s 吊龙伴 on their menu)
• four treasures balls -a mix of shrimp, fish, pork & mushroom, and dried tangerine peel beef balls
• napa cabbage

My annual visit to the Winter Village at! ✨
I recommend entering during the free admission hours (check their site) and staying until it gets dark! It’s so much prettier at night but it does get chilly, so dress warm🧣

• classic (pork) oko hiroshima
Cute Japaense food truck that specializes in okonomiyaki 🇯🇵 We tried the classic pork Hiroshima style okonomiyaki (it has noodles!) It was saucy, delicious and packed with ingredients
2.
• peach & golden plum sorbet 🍑
Small batch ice cream shop we stumbled upon! We loved the peach sorbet - super refreshing & resembled the taste of the actual fruit SO WELL. The golden plum one was great too
3.
• iced lavender latte, iced matcha latte, latte
Cozy & relaxing cafe with a lot of outdoor seating 🍃 I definitely recommend getting their espresso-based drinks, the coffee is smooth and strong!
4.
• birria taco, mushroom taco, esquite
Looked good but the tortilla was quite dry & the fillings lacked flavour. The esquite was the best item I tried, it’s corn off the cob mixed with mayo, zing & feta 🌽
5.
• full cider flight, charcuterie board
The charcuterie board was amazing and the spread from really elevated the board, it tasted so good with the meats and cheeses. Our favs from the cider flight were: Saskatoon berry, blood orange and dry 🍎

• almond croissant, breakfast sandwich, miso chocolate cookie
the BEST spot for pastries and baked goods! 🥐 the almond croissant was so flakey and buttery, and the breakfast sandwich was so delicious and filling! I definitely want to come back to the island for them. Note that they are open thurs-sun 9-3pm
7.
• seafood chowder, white wine mussel bowl
seafood chowder was creamy and loaded with potatoes and salmon. The mussels were so fresh & the white wine sauce was pretty good! However, food took almost an hour to come
8.
• old school sandwich
A solid spot for Montreal smoked meat sandwich! Even better than the one I had in Montreal lol Meat was tender and the pickles went so well with the sandwich 😏
9.
• latte
The cafe was spacious but wasn’t a huge fan of the coffee here. I prefer just buying their beans

A famous spot to go in Arashiyama, Kyoto is this UPSIDE DOWN ICE CREAM 🍦 from
It can hold its shape even when turned upside because it’s made with tofu! The soy bean taste is strong and the texture is silky & creamy, best tofu ice cream I’ve had 😍
Make sure to stop by when you’re heading to the bamboo forest or the bridge. This street is also a great place to take a stroll and shop
