お釈迦様の涅槃に際して咲いた沙羅双樹の話がありますが、日本では気候が合わず育たない為、代替のこの沙羅が植栽されます。
夏につばきに似た白花を咲かせる為、夏椿とも呼ばれます。

バラまつりでは、瑜祇大宝塔とともにバラ園、花筵庭(かえんてい)を期間限定で公開いたします。
花筵庭は令和3年から作庭されたバラと宿根草の庭園です。
四方を紅葉に囲まれ、借景に瑜祇大宝塔と鉾立山を望みます。
カッコウやウグイスなどの野鳥の声が響き、蝶々が舞う、自然豊かな場所にあり、都会の喧騒を離れてゆっくりと花と香りを楽しめます。
今年より、庭の面積も拡張して、バラも大きく成長して、見応えが出ております。
駐車場では観音市が開催され、キッチンカーや屋台などのお店が日替わり出店します。
また、期間中天王院では写経体験を行います。
青もみじと苔の新緑の中落ち着いた雰囲気の道場です。
お写経をしていただけたら幸いです。

紅葉で知られるドウダンツツジもこの時期美しい新緑を見せてくれます。
