We looked at a selection of some of the biggest and most influential festival line-ups in our scene. Then we removed all bands where we could not identify any women, trans or non-binary members.
What remains speaks for itself.
Festival line-ups are not neutral. They are decisions that shape visibility, careers and the future of our scene.
Big festival slots mean media attention, algorithmic reach, tour offers and long-term stability. When visibility concentrates, power concentrates.
Women alone make up roughly half of the global population. Including trans and non-binary people, we are clearly not talking about a niche. Yet on many of the biggest stages, women and gender-diverse people are barely visible.
Representation matters. π€
It shapes backstage culture, audience climate and who even dares to start a band in the first place. It also shapes the stories we hear and the realities reflected in lyrics.
This is not about attacking male artists or excluding men. We work with men, share stages with men and have men in our band and crew.
This is about structural imbalance.
Feminism is not anti-men.
It is pro-equality. βοΈ
Rock and metal call themselves rebellious. π€
Real rebellion questions power structures.
Our scene deserves better.
At the same time, we know that there are festivals, bookers and smaller scenes actively working to change this, such as,, or. Those efforts matter.
