I posted on my stories the other night about how I have found the past couple of years with ‘giving in’ to struggles with bed/nighttime.

We worked hard on rebranding ‘giving in’ and saw it as actually meeting the kids needs! It went against what so many people had said/what we read. ‘Crying it out’ was a big trend a few years back where you’d basically sit with a stop watch and go in periodically like it was a challenge on Gladiators or something- and it definitely felt like that! And it absolutely did not work (with any longevity) for any of us, and it was brutal.

I am riddled with guilt that we didn’t ‘give in’ earlier. I held ‘strong’ for years for it only to really be breaking us all.

Nothing works for everyone, but not everyone works for you- do it your way!
Give me all of the colours, all of the patterns, or even better all of them all together!

I’m currently planning the utility room project and have my heart set on a base colour that comes to light with maybe some patterned wallpaper and fabrics?!
The ‘Middle Room’… aka the playroom that no one plays in!

So often, when extending out the back of houses, you are left with some kind of awkward ‘middle room’. One that acts as a thoroughfare to get to the extended area- or a gloried corridor, you might say!

Although the kitchen and extension had me swooning as soon as it was built, this room consumed me! It was so dark, completely uninviting and didn’t have a true identity.

In its previous life it was the kids playroom, but they rarely play in there now, choosing instead to camp up in the light filled extension, or up the dining table with drawing/ crafts.

In its 2.5yr life, this room has already been through a lot of changes to improve the space;

1. I repainted it using left over paint from the kitchen/extension which looks a completely different colour in here but adds warmth and depth (I chose an off white before and it was the worst decision- it was soooo dreary!).

2. Bought a massive rug to soften and centre the space, which I think works well

3. Changed the once metal, angular light fitting to a softer shade to make it feel more homely

4. Finally broke with the lack of light and we had the internal window put it (would absolutely NOT recommend smashing holes in walls once everything is finished and decorated 😖)

So, although not much play happens in the playroom, its main purpose now is storage, which I am so grateful for! The unit that runs across the left hand side is filled with ALL of the kids stuff! Oh, and it makes a great dance floor 💃🏻
We’re all counting today as the real first day in January right?!

I do look forward to getting back into the routine of things and not having to question what day it is 5x a day! But, routine for me looks a little different at the moment! I’m hoping ‘to-do lists’ will help focus me on all of the tasks currently swimming around my head in a pool of un-productivity!
The fact that some still have Christmas decs up makes me question whether I am a complete post Christmas Scrooge?! Give me all the festive gold, sparkles and glitter in December but they have no place in January here!

We’re straight into earlyJanuary birthday mode over here, so I use that as an excuse for a quick turn around, but I’m even without that, I think I’d be the same!
I made a big gear shift at the end of 2025. I have no clear idea what 2026 will bring. Is that overwhelmingly unnerving or exciting?! I can’t quite work that feeling out yet… but let’s see how it goes!
Am I churning out the same-same Christmas content again and again, absolutely!

The rest of the house feels a constant state with stuff everywhere at the moment. Kids craft stuff, wrapping paper & Christmas cards that I don’t really know what to do with!

The village has relocated to the kitchen shelf!

The power of a few cardboard boxes & fairy lights, eh?!

After Christmas, they’ll have their 3rd life when the kids can attack then with their colouring pencils!

Did anyone else keep their paint boxes for months just to be able to do this…?

The same mantel, but a very different room ✨

I will continue to wheel out the same Christmas decor year in year out, but this year, this room is very different. It’s gone from dark teal (which always looked amazing contrasted with the gold at Christmas) to neutral walls and orange pops.

I did wonder whether the room would feel as magical as usual at this time of year, but I needn’t have worried because gold goes with everything!
