The Senate did not follow through with a threat to rollback safeguards after tens of thousands of Americans spoke up in support of this cherished landscape.

But let’s all stay vigilant to prevent future attacks on public lands!

Comment "water" to tell the Water Quality Control Commission to adopt strong rules.
For many Hispanic communities in New Mexico, the Pecos River is more than a vital watershed, it’s a source of culture, livelihood, and connection across generations.

For Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council (HCLC) member Janice Varela, protecting the Pecos watershed is so deeply personal to her and her community.

During HECHO’s Spring Advocacy trip in Washington, D.C., Janice and other Hispanic leaders from the Southwest advocated for Pecos Watershed Protection Act and raised awareness about the impacts of past mining in the area as well as the importance of safeguarding clean water for future generations.

We got to help the New Mexico Wildlife Federation with their annual fundraiser! The event was at the beautiful Legacy Ranch in Edgewood, New Mexico. We had a station setup where we taught precision rifle fundamentals, specifically prone, kneeling and standing. We also got to show off some pretty cool chassis systems, tripods and bipods. Great time!
The administration has announced a major reorganization of the U.S. Forest Service, which stewards more than 193 million acres of land. The headquarters will move to Salt Lake City and 9 regional offices will close. Even more significantly, 55 research centers will close. These labs are critical for wildfire management, enhancing biodiversity, and improving water quality. See link in bio for more information.

The Trump administration has begun the process of potentially reversing federal protections for lands surrounding Chaco Culture National Historical Park in northwestern New Mexico.

The proposal from the U.S. Department of the Interior would revoke Public Land Order 7923, which currently prevents new oil and gas leasing on 336,400 acres of federal land within a 10-mile buffer around the park.

The agency opened a 7-day public scoping period, a move critics say is far shorter than the 150-day public comment period and multiple public meetings used when the protections were created.

The Greater Chaco Landscape contains thousands of archaeological and cultural sites connected to the ancestors of modern Pueblo peoples, and the park itself is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If protections are removed, new drilling could occur on federal lands directly bordering the park, raising concerns from Tribal leaders, archaeologists, and conservation groups about impacts to cultural heritage, public health, and the landscape.

Comment before April 7th using the first link in my bio.
