I got to exercise my moderating skills for the Malaysian Internationa Craft Fair 2026 last week organised by. (It is on till 5th October).

It was truly an honor to speak to the international artisans on how can we can keep ancient craft alive in today's world. We touched on philosophy, meaning and even machine & AI. I just wished I could speak all the languages fluently to truly honor these masters. Despite this, I was happy to manage the many questions that came up during the Q & A Round. It is clear there is interest from people about heritage arts & craft.

Love to the great audience, panelists & organiser! This is one for the books! Thanks to my Yayasan Hasanah team for the emotional support too!

On panel that day:

1. Adil Abdul Ghani, Malaysia (Ceramics)
2. Iwi Le Comte, New Zealand (Maori carving)
3. Mr. Arshad Kafeel, India (Tarkashi Brass inlay)
4. Madam Udeni Deepika & son Kavindu Rashmika, Sri Lanka (Beelaru Lace)
5.Master Weu Yuzhong, China (Jade Carving)
6. Master Tokhir Muhkhamedov, Uzbekistan (Jewellery)
7. Mr. Firman Hamzah, Indonesia (Leather carving).

PS. They will all be in Malaysia conducting demos until 4th of October. So do find some time to catch them if keen!

This was a fun day. The ladies didn't quite know what to make of us when we sat ourselves on their porch. Haha. Kelantan spontaneously with and.

Blessed to have been able to travel on Malaysia Day to catch the launching of a new "bangsal" in Kampung Padang Lalang, Tanah Merah, Kelantan.

It is called Pusat Innovasi Seni Dikir Barat and it a place designed to gather, teach, practice this art form in a structured manner. Traditionally, the art is transferred orally (berguru) but the dikit barat practitioners themselves believe things need development and awareness.. It is the center's dream to be able to train artists to perform outside of villages in a professional manner.

You may not know this but people from as far as Japan to Singapore has asked to be taught this art form (im our style) and cannot wait to visit to experience learning it in a kampung environment.

If you are keen to visit yourself please contact aka Abe Yie who is the person leading this initiative under his association

To get there, you need to fly to Kota Bharu, then drive (1hour) to Tanah Merah.

Selamat Hari Malaysia, may we continue om traditions and art forms that make us, us.

Love, Nini
Black raw silk long kebaya paired with songket makes for a quiet kind of drama.

I made friends with Hajah Zainun, Master Weaver of Terengganu Songket, years ago.

I approached her during Hari Kraf Kebangsaan, introduced myself as my mother’s daughter, and asked if she would like to join our textile association, Citra. She told me to fill in the form for her and handed me the cash on the spot. Boss vibes. 😂

I didn’t know it then, but I think she kind of enlisted me into her family instead. Soon after, her children (Hajar and Luqman) started engaging with me too and its been hilarious!

They are a true warisan business — a family carrying forward a legacy while finding their own way to stay relevant in today’s world. And I love that they are doing it on their own terms.

I celebrate them today as I watch the family take to greater heights, while staying rooted in who they are and where they come from.

If you’d like to learn more about their songket, their family history and the legacy they are carrying forward, you have a few more days to do so here in KL.

Visit this week and check their IG to learn more about their Warisan Songket project.
The launched today and I was excitedand blessed t o be able to visit it on its opening day. A lot of work has gone into setting up this museum. My deepest congratulations to the entire team for this tremendous effort.

I remember when you first told me about this project years ago, and to see it now.... WOW! Super love and mad respect!

As a textile lover, this will definitely be on my list of places to send any of my “visit Malaysia” friends to!

The Azah Aziz permanent collection of textiles, costumes and jewellery (Galleries 1–6) is a treasure for anyone keen to learn about Malay world heritage and culture. It is engaging, beautifully curated and filled with stories to marvel over.

I also like Galleries 7 & 8, which give a nod to our international connections and explore ideas around continuity and innovation.

I will definitely be coming here again for a slower walkthrough. For now, enjoy some of my pictures took today! And visiti!
I'm pretty pleased with this photo postcard. The stillness of 7am.
I decided to join my "younger" cousins group on their road trip to check out the first edition of and it was just so fun. We explored & discovered art together, we talked for hours over food and drinks. It was just so lovely. I am thankful for this family memory and to share a new experience together.

On the side (& with complete enjoyment) I had the oppurtunity to meet art peoples and picked-up some notes for work. Ofcourseeee I did. LOL

Congratulations for this amazing effort. LOVE! Today (14 June) is the last day to visit the festival and the sweet spot is to visit after lunch. Do go! Time now is 12.30 ish... you have timeee because performances are on in the evening too. It's always special to visit the first one. Xx

P.S No background music for some realness.
