A little glimpse into my studio. Yesterday I had such a hard time with a painting, I didn’t know how to get where I wanted to be with the artwork. And while I am breaking my head about it, I keep changing the brushstrokes, erasing, different colors, more brushstrokes.. I hear a yawn behind me.. I have been working on this collection for more than a year now and it is still unfolding. Some of the paintings are finished and available, others are still on my easel waiting for their final layers.
I love seeing them come together like this, each one with its own story and its own kind of wisdom.
There are more wings coming.

Meet Me in the Middle is the first one with more than one bird. Two hummingbirds.
Somewhere between knowing and not knowing, light and darkness, holding on and letting go, there is a place where we can simply meet. Where masculine meets feminine, giving meets receiving, doing meets being, and movement finds stillness. It is your centre point, the place within yourself you can always return to.
It is about balance with another person, and even more about the balance within yourself.

For quite a while it still felt a little chaotic. Some paintings were finished, others were still on the easel, and I couldn’t completely see how everything belonged together. And then, slowly, it started to make sense.
Part I was about recognizing what was already within you. Your beauty, your worth, your own way of being in this world, and finding the courage to spread your wings.
Part II is what comes after that. Once you have found your wings, how do you learn to use them? When do you move and when do you wait? What do you trust? Where do you belong?
Perhaps the collection makes sense to me now because it reflects something I have been learning myself over the past few years. How to navigate in my own way, trust my inner wisdom, find my own rhythm, and recognize when it is time to wait and when it is time to move.
And slowly the birds started to find their way in. Each with their own way of moving through the world. The collection is still unfolding, and instead of waiting until everything is finished I have decided to share it with you as it grows.
These are the first two. Keeper of Wisdom and Keeper of Timing.

I studied tourism and travelled the world, got married in Denmark, lived in Ecuador, Germany, and back to the Netherlands, I worked all kinds of jobs, got divorced at 25, became a flight attendant and most of the time I felt completely lost and had no idea what I was doing.
Thirteen years ago I met my love and with that I became a bonusmom. I still didn’t know what to do with my life, so I started studying again. I became a yoga teacher for children and a holistic therapist for families, while I was still flying and working in the family business.
I struggled with all the big questions. My life had turned out completely different from what I expected. A divorce, no children of my own, while people my age seemed to be doing it all the way it was supposed to go. Then I asked myself what my deepest desire really was.
That was the moment I was ready. Ready to face all my fears and admit that what I wanted most was to create beautiful and meaningful art with my own hands.
That is how a completely different life started. It brings me joy and fulfilment, and it is a bumpy road with a lot of challenges. I wouldn’t change it.
Sometimes we are too afraid to speak our deepest desires out loud. Once you let them into your daily life, everything changes.
And now I paint women in their eighties and nineties.
