It was the year I started hiking as much as I could and the year I found New Hampshire hiking lists. The lists gave me a sense of purpose, and I loved being able to work toward a goal while finding new trails. And because I was hiking more, I started working on myself and my mental health. It truly was a turning point in my life! 🫶🏻
I also learned A LOT about hiking in 2016. I didn’t have all the right gear and probably didn’t drink as much water as I should have, but I was still new to hiking. But I quickly started learning more about gear, nutrition, hydration, and everything in between as I tackled more difficult trails.
I think we sometimes forget that everyone starts somewhere. We were all new hikers at some point and didn’t have all the correct gear or know everything we do now. I grew a lot as a hiker in 2016, and I took it more seriously because I knew hiking was going to be something I wanted to do for a long time.
It is pretty crazy to think about how much things (our ourselves!) change in the span of 10 years. I’m a completely different person than I was back then. I am a lot happier and healthier, mentally and physically, and I have hiking to thank for a lot of that. Hiking continues to teach me things to this day, and I will forever be grateful that it helped me through my darkest times.
What’s something hiking has taught you over the last 10 years? ❤️

I’m teaming up with to help you recreate responsibly this winter!
If you aren’t ready to tackle winter hiking up a mountain just yet, snowshoeing is the perfect alternative!
🎒Get snowshoes that fit your estimated weight WITH your gear. It’s important to take into account your backpack weight. Renting is a great option to see what works best!
🗺️ Plan out your route ahead of time and make sure to stay on trails at your level. Most Nordic centers label their trails, making it easy to know which ones to stay on.
🎿Many trails are multi-use so stay aware of skiers and snowmobiles.
🏔️Use poles and snap on your heel lifts when going uphill. Trust me, they help!
‼️Just because you aren’t hiking up a mountain, it doesn’t mean snowshoeing doesn’t require preparation! You should wear/pack:
• insulated boots
• wool socks and base layers
• waterproof pants and jacket
• insulated jacket
• hat and gloves
• food and water
• map
• 10 essentials
• sunglasses
❄️ And if you aren’t ready to go out on your own, many Nordic centers in New Hampshire offer beginner-friendly guided tours.
• Bretton Woods
• Waterville Valley
• Great Glen Trails
• Jackson XC
• Bear Notch Road
Have you snowshoed before or is it on your bucket list?
Hint: It is one of the hottest places in the world, with temperatures over 100 degrees in the summer. (YIKES!) When we visited in March, it was still hot, especially midday.
If you guessed Death Valley National Park, you’re right! 🙂
It has some of the most beautiful landscapes I have hiked in, and every corner of the park is unique. It’s honestly so stunning!
If you want to visit, I highly recommend visiting between late fall and early spring. The cooler temperatures are perfect for exploring and hiking in the park.
I also recommend spending at least 1-2 days in the park. I spent a day in Death Valley, but I wish I had another to hike more!
Here are a few of my favorite places if you want to visit!
• Dantes View
• Zabriskie Point
• Badwater Basin
• Natural Bridge
• Artists Drive & Artists Palette
• Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
• Ubehebe Crater
Have you visited Death Valley, or is it on your bucket list?
**It is so important to familiarize yourself with the Leave No Trace principles and make sure we are leaving the places we visit better than we found them. Please remember to always pack out your trash and throw it away properly, never approach or feed wildlife, and never step on fragile vegetation.

I think because I’m a millennial and grew up in a time before social media took over, I am craving to go back to those simple times, to a simple life. Back when connection meant sitting across from someone rather than watching them through my screen. When moments weren’t curated or compared but were just lived. I want to spend more time being fully present in my own life instead of consuming small bits of everyone else’s online.
And that’s the intention I’m carrying into 2026. To move through life more mindfully and be fully present in the moments that matter. Because the older I get, the more I realize how quickly time goes by. Days turn into years before we even notice, and it’s so easy to miss the moments we once wished we’d slowed down to appreciate more. I don’t want to look back and realize I was physically there but absent in every way that counts.
What are you focusing on in 2026?
I’m partnering with to help you recreate responsibly this winter!
One of the most important things to do for winter hiking is to learn how to layer correctly. The goal is to regulate your body temperature, not sweat through your layers too much, and, of course, stay warm and protected against the elements.
Layers:
• wool base layer top
• fleece lined leggings
• fleece jacket
• puffy jacket
• waterproof jacket
• waterproof pants
Other gear to help keep you warm:
• hat
• gloves
• waterproof gloves
• neck gaiter
Reminder: Everyone and every hike is different! I run cold, so I tend to wear more layers than my friends who run warm. You have to figure out what works best for you!
What are some of your favorite winter hiking layers?
