But after our call, when he said, “life is also beautiful,” it made me pause and look at the full picture. And he was right. There was beauty. A lot of it. I think we forget to do that a lot…. look at the big picture.
I started a charity that so many people believe in enough to support with such generous donations.
I raced 100 miles in my favourite place on earth and finished 4th.
I lost one of my closest friends, and somehow the friendships connected to her became stronger, deeper, and a real blessing in my life.
I found the most amazing man who has ridden every emotional wave with me and loved me consistently.
My friendships grew and became so much stronger.
I traveled.
My dog is healthy and happy.
I started coaching.
I am healthy.
I want to live like a positive potato, acknowledging the hard (because the hard days are real) but choosing to see the beautiful too. Because that’s what life is…..both. Always.
We control nothing, but we influence everything.
And I’m proud of what I influenced in 2025.
New year, same goals.
Consistency. Strength. Speed.
Simple on paper. Powerful in practice.
The invisible work always counts.
No one will ever care about your life the way you do. No one will care about your goals, your work, or your path as deeply as you will. Support from friends matters, but at the end of the day, you’re the one who has to pick yourself up, keep going, and do the work. It’s like I always knew this, but never had to actually live it until this year.
The people who truly matter don’t care about your job title or your money. They care about who you are, your values, and the way you show up. You won’t mesh with everyone, and that’s okay. Some people will take advantage when you’re doing good things. Where you give your energy and who you give it to, matters. That lesson can’t be repeated enough. That’s when you grow thicker skin, stay grounded in your why, and keep moving forward.
People can inspire you. They can motivate you. But you still have to show up.
One of the hardest lessons of 2025 was trying to please people, taking things personally, and secretly hoping someone would rescue me in the depths of despair.
I’m incredibly grateful for my circle, the friends who picked me up when I couldn’t get out of bed. I’ve felt more support in the last seven months than I ever have, and I’ll never take that for granted. But people can’t do that every day. Life keeps moving, and we adapt to new chapters, even the ones we didn’t choose.
I didn’t make a New Year’s resolution, but I’ll continue to reflect on this:
Control nothing. Influence everything.
Before skiing with her, I spent years with someone who intentionally stripped away my confidence in life, and in the mountains. Skiing included, something meant to be fun, to learn, to grow confidence in the backcountry just became about power and control.
Hannah and I had XC skied together for years, but last winter we committed to Rogers Pass every weekend we could. And we did. It was never just about skiing. She rebuilt parts of me that had been worn down, never made me feel small, never made me feel incapable. When you find a ski partner like that, it’s rare. But she was more than a ski partner, she was a long-time friend, deepened through a shared seasons of life. That’s the beauty of connection. We matched each other’s energy.
This year felt daunting without her.
I went out anyways and ripped the bandage off, because that’s how it felt. I carried pieces of her with me. The sky opened into the bluest blue, the snow was good, the company was kind. It was both beautiful and heartbreaking. All the emotions at once.
She gave me the confidence to keep learning, growing, and experiencing the mountains the way she loved most, good snow, good people, and finding joy even on hard days. My friend said during the ski tour “Hannah brought us a beautiful day” - and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to do my first tour of the season with.
She’s always with me ❤️
