Spinal team at our Royal Hospital – nominated by a patient who attended our Emergency Department, the Spinal team were praised for their empathy and attentiveness, putting the patient who was in a lot of distress, quickly at ease 🫶
Safeguarding at Liverpool Women’s – nominated for identifying a potential risk of harm to the local authorities, protecting a local family.
Around 2,200 pupils from 13 different secondary schools took part in Stop the Bleed Day, gaining confidence and knowledge to act quickly in an emergency by learning how to recognise and respond to a life threatening bleed.
“KnifeSavers was founded on the belief that anyone can save a life with the right knowledge. Stop the Bleed Day gives young people essential skills in a hands on, memorable way, and the response from Merseyside schools shows just how engaged and capable young people are when given these opportunities,” said Mr Nikhil Misra.
Doctors and nurses from Aintree and the Royal, as well as Whiston Hospital, joined clinical educators from LJMU and Edge Hill Universities, to offer engaging training sessions for pupils that provided practical techniques such as learnt how to pack a wound, apply direct pressure correctly and how to improvise a tourniquet.
The event was supported by the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership (MVRP), working alongside partners KnifeSavers, citizenAID and the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit (GMVRU).
