According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, early Thursday morning, a 911 caller in a Tesla Cybertruck traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near 35th Avenue reported they were being followed by a Tesla Model 3, stating the occupants had attempted to kidnap them earlier.

The driver of the Cybertruck attempted to evade the following vehicle.

Troopers intercepted both vehicles near the Interstate 10 and Interstate 17 interchange near Sky Harbor Airport.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop on the Tesla Model 3 as the 911 dispatcher advised the Cybertruck driver to pull into a nearby parking lot and wait for law enforcement. The Model 3 pulled over and came to a stop at the 32nd Street exit of Interstate 10.

While troopers were speaking with the driver of the Model 3, they sped off from the stop. Troopers initiated a pursuit as the vehicle continued eastbound on Interstate 10 before transitioning onto the U.S. 60.

The Tesla exited at Mill Avenue, traveled south, and turned west onto Baseline Road. Troopers followed the vehicle into a residential neighborhood near the intersection of Sesame Street and Roosevelt Street, where the three occupants fled from the car.

A trooper arrived moments later and ordered the suspects to lie on the ground; two of them complied, while a third continued fleeing on foot. Both followed directions, lying on the ground until additional troopers, along with Tempe police and a deputy with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, arrived to assist in taking them into custody.

Eventually, the two subjects were ordered to walk back toward the troopers and were detained.
The Mesa Police Department’s helicopter arrived overhead to aid the search for the third outstanding suspect, who remains at large.

Troopers are still investigating the legitimacy of the 911 caller’s claims of the attempted kidnapping.

Phoenix Police responded to the Bank of America parking lot at the intersection of 40th Street and Broadway Road to interview the Cybertruck driver.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department were involved in a shooting early Monday morning on East Indian School Road.

According to Sergeant Jen Zak, police received reports shortly after 1:00 a.m. about a woman standing in the roadway armed with a knife. A passerby had exited his vehicle and approached her, asking if she needed help, at which point the woman charged at him with the knife.

Upon arrival, officers located a female matching the suspect’s description in the roadway. They commanded her to drop the knife, but she refused. The woman then moved toward an occupied building where another person was outside.

To prevent her from reaching the bystander, officers deployed less-lethal munitions. However, when those were ineffective, one officer used his service rifle, striking the suspect.

The woman was transported to a local hospital by Phoenix Fire Department personnel with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the incident, police closed Indian School Road in both directions between 40th and 44th Streets while the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Crimes Division led the investigation.
