Why is it such a hard decision? Because it’s where durability intersects with beauty as well as price. I have had so many clients swoon over marble for its natural beauty and the gorgeous veins, but you have to go into it with eyes wide open knowing that the way it looks on day one is not how it’s going to look a year in or 10 years in. It etches and it stains and you have to be OK with that! It also is extremely costly and for that reason often times is available only in 2 cm slabs versus typical 3 cm..

I have always felt that man-made quartz never really came close to replicating marble. So many just trying to hard and very fake looking, but the durability of manmade quartz really cannot be beat. Enter printed quartz… it’s a newer technology of printing on top of a slab of manmade quartz. And I will be using that for the first time on an upcoming project with

Photos show the printed quartz versus real marble… I’d love to hear your comments on what you think. I had it priced vs the real thing and it’s half the cost and no comparison in terms of durability.

I am working on a mudroom design for a four bedroom home. Resale value matters. The wall with the window is highly on view from the house and so other than closing the door, which would cut off sunlight, this elevation should look nice.

Option one has a built-in L-shaped bench with four cubbies… But the cubbies are each only about 15 inches wide, which seems not spacious enough. Thoughts on four narrow cubbies vs three spacious ones?.

Option 2 has a piece of furniture and draperies rather than a built-in bench. This option has three cubbies that are more spacious. Swipe to see the bench I’d use with this option

Swipe to see the floor plan which has a jog in it… an additional option, not drawn, would be running the cubbies along that full wall and eliminating the tall storage cabinet (but I did think of that as a useful cabinet!, and a nice way of hiding the jog in the wall)..
