It was built in XIX century after Napoleon will for local aristocracy that used to come (by gondola of course) and have little walk in nature. Something that was pretty much common at that time in big European cities, think about Tuileries Gardens in Paris, or Kensington Gardens in London.
Well, this is a pretty tiny version of course, do to the small average size of spaces in Venice, but is such a gem in the center of the city, almost unknown and so enjoyable in this last days of Italy's lockdown.
Thanks to the, who's taking care of the spaces since 2014, it's been wisely restored as it was before.

Is the local administration doing something about this subject? Well, of course not at all. And this is what makes me feel very bad about the future of my city.
I’m not against tourism at all, Venice have to be discovered and known by anyone, but how about visiting a place without locals? What would make the difference between Disneyland and an empty Venice? I’m sure tourists too want to visit here and see local life with local people. And not just empty beautiful palaces…
Btw the city is so poetic these days and it makes me cry when I’m watching at all this beauty almost by myself… It’s so touching 💔
Despite everything I felt very lucky to be here this last year and to live my city in this - extraordinary - way. I fear the return of massive crowds of tourist and I would love to hear a local debate about it…

Venice is turning 1600 years old! 🎂🎉 The 25th of March is traditionally known as the "date of birth" of the city. It's a very ancient history that loses its origins in a very far past dating the year 421.
Yes, apparently that far away year the first church of Venice - San Giacometto (Little St. James), near Rialto bridge - was built and its consecration was exactly the 25th of March 421. Date that became, a little after, the symbolic day of Venice's birth.
Believe it or not, this is a true story and it's just one of the countless stories behind these old stones. 🤓📚 (Have a look on my stories for more)
Because of the pandemic issue today the city won't be able to celebrate as it should've, but there is a whole year in front of us to remember the world that this city was here for 1600 years and (hopefully) another 1600! But this is another long story... 🙈
