On July 1st, Nest will join Free Heri Heri For All, a nationwide initiative by KIP Republic commemorating Keti Koti, the annual celebration marking the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Caribbean. According to the Statistics Netherlands (CBS), around one million Dutch people are unable to go on holiday due to financial constraints. Rasit Elibol knows just what thatโs like: it is the reason he never went on holiday as a child. While all of his school friends left the country to go camping in France, he and his friend Okkie had to stay behind in Wormer. He feared the first day of school after the holidays, when everyone would share their summertime adventures.

Whatโs your favourite part of The Hague? The ever bustling centre, or the sunny Scheveningen perhaps? As official city illustrator, artist Philip Akkerman spends the year drawing cityscapes of the different neighbourhoods of The Hague. Like the iconic district office of Escamp depicted here.
Do you want to learn how to draw just like Philip? You can! In June and July, Akkerman will give two workshops. One about drawing in perspective and one about drawing and painting with egg-tempera, a centuries old technique Akkerman uses. Reserve a spot through the link in our bio! Het is een speciaal nieuw werk van kunstenaar Ilke Gers. Gers maakt grootschalige werken op de grond waarin invloeden van het lichaam, beweging, taal en de omgeving samenkomen. When visiting Nest youโll stumble upon a playful and lively series of lines that guide you to the entrance. ๏ธตโโณโฐ
They are part of a special new artwork by artist Ilke Gers. Gers created large scale ground works in which the body, movement, language and the environment play an important role. Inspired by the former function of the Nest building as the canteen of Den Haagโs power station, Gers made a complex series of lines, using a traditional paint marking machine.
The drawings will fade over time when people will walk over them or they are eroded by the weather. In the tradition of street games, Nest and Ilke Gers invite you to use the chalk provided to expand the drawings and make your own additions.

In the work of Marina Planas we see a selection of details from typical summery postcards.
The images in ๐๐ช๐น๐น๐ ๐๐ธ๐ต๐ฒ๐ญ๐ช๐๐ผ **refer to the familiar visual language of holiday snapshots. All photographs were taken in the Balearic Islands in the mid-twentieth century. This was a time in which Francoโs dictatorship slowly opened Spain to the outside world and Northern Europe decided that the South would be the ideal recreational area for the wealthy.
The intensely cropped images of Planas highlight that photographs are never exact depictions of reality. Postcards are carefully composed images with a very clear goal: to attract visitors. ๐ท Kyle Tryhorn
