Ça fera bientôt 15 ans que ce projet existe!!! Commencé par un squat, on y a tout mis: de la sueur, des larmes, des années de travail et surtout beaucoup de folie!!
Après avoir été baladés de lieu en lieu, après 7 déménagements consécutifs à coups de centaines d’allers-retours en camion, le Wonder s’est installé il y a trois ans dans un site de 14 000 m² à Bobigny, avec ses 70 artistes, ses machines et pôles de production équipés, nos logements… et même deux bébés!!
Aujourd’hui, on commence enfin à apercevoir la lumière, encore lointaine mais frémissante, d’une pérennisation.
Et ça passe par un montage économique un peu fou: réhabiliter encore un autre bâtiment de 1 700 m², juste en face de chez nous, pour y installer du stockage professionnel destiné notamment à des collections publiques et privées, et utiliser les revenus générés pour financer, sur 25 ans, le rachat de notre lieu, sans faire porter ce coût aux artistes.
On a remporté cet été l’appel à projets pour ce site. On travaille aujourd’hui avec le Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis sur un cadre qui permettrait d’en sécuriser l’occupation gratuite sur 25 ans, soit la durée nécessaire pour que notre modèle économique de pérennisation du Wonder puisse fonctionner.
Si on y arrive, le Wonder pourrait devenir le premier artist-run space que je connaisse, à cette échelle, à avoir réussi à se pérenniser tout en restant pensé, géré et porté par des artistes!!!!
Le Wonder est probablement le projet le plus important de ma vie, et je crois que je n’ai jamais autant eu envie de le voir durer!!!!

Once at the top, caught up in the excitement, I started making my way down into the crater, telescope under my arm, all excited like Professor Lidenbrock in Jules Verne.
The further down I went, though, the more I started wondering what exactly I was going to be standing on once I reached the bottom. Was the ground actually solid? Was I going to sink into it and disappear underground?
Once I reached the center, I set up the telescope as close as I could to the sulfur vents. And there, through the lens, the whole structure of the material appeared: thousands of tiny yellow needles, which can only form under the very particular heat conditions of an active volcano!
That’s when I met a strange character made of sulfur, who started singing for me as soon as I began filming him.

Earlier this summer, we spent a month in Gwangyang, South Korea, on the invitation of together with,,, developing and producing this new installation entirely on site.
The museum gave us a large empty space to work in, and over the course of four weeks my installation gradually took shape from materials gathered, found and produced locally, cardboard, discarded objects, Korean newspapers, plastic, furniture and many other things collected along the way.
The work is now part of 2 Feu 2 Flamme an exhibition celebrating 140 years of diplomatic relations and friendship between France and Korea, bringing together artists from both countries.
A huge thank you to and for the invitation, their trust and all their support throughout this month, and to the entire team for welcoming us and making this production possible. ❤️
