One of my strongest memories is of my mother. At home, she always had flowers and basil on the stairs. The whole house smelled like it. And every time I smell basil now, I think of her.
A scent can carry a whole lifetime. A home. A voice. A love that stays.
This memory inspired me to write Echoes of Mawaal 💜 For my mother and for all mothers.

At an event. I closed my eyes and sang. When I opened them. applause. One man in the back saw me. Sami. One of the first Palestinian refugees in the Netherlands.
He opened his home. His world. I slept on his couch. We talked all night. I learned. I met the people who shaped my path. He gave me my first Oud.
Three years later, he passed away.
