Every year for a few short weeks, Tasmania's highland mountains are draped in autumn hues as the fagus (Nothofagus Gunii - also known as the deciduous beech) changes colour before losing all of its foliage.
This is our only native temperate deciduous plant, and it is a spectacular sight to see! 🍁

I have recently released The Landscape Photography Handbook, a 110-page PDF guide covering every aspect of landscape photography! From making your first camera purchase and understanding what equipment is necessary, to creating print-ready images.
The Landscape Photography Handbook covers in depth:
- Camera Equipment
- Set Up & Exposure Settings
- Composition
- Planning (Location scouting - reading weather forecasts, etc)
- Post-Processing
- Colour Theory
- Print Making
My goal with this handbook was to tread the fine line between providing detailed & thorough information without it becoming too overwhelming for the readers.
There are many graphic and photo examples and I share only the necessary information, based on my 10 years as a landscape photographer. 📸
Everything in this guide is my own work. Including the photography, graphics, and writing. It has been a big project putting all of this together - and I'm sure you will be able to learn something from it even if you are a more experienced photographer!
If you would like access to the Landscape Photographers Handbook, as well as my entire library of video tutorials, please consider supporting me by becoming a paid subscriber (it only costs approx. 25c a day at the time of posting). Alternatively, it can be downloaded for a one-time payment on my Patreon store. 🔗

I'd seen the forecast earlier in the week and decided to extend my stay with hopes of properly seeing snow for the first time - but I didn't expect to wake to the entire landscape blanketed in snow and ice!
I arrived to the park early, driving down the winding road to the Dove Lake carpark. On arrival there was blizzard-like conditions - with relentless wind and snow covering our car. But right before the sun came up, the weather began to clear to reveal these incredible snowy mountain scenes! ❄️
Tasmania never fails to amaze.

The forecast didn't look promising for a colourful sunrise at Cradle Mountain, but I was up early and headed for Hanson Lake anyway - excited to return to this place where I had noticed a lot of fagus (Nothofagus Gunii, also known as the deciduous beech) - Australia's only native cold-climate deciduous plant.
When I arrived up on the saddle between Hansons Peak & Mount Campbell, I was blown away with the colours of the landscape and in the sky too! 🌄

Even with the mist, light, and moss covering almost every surface, it still took some patience as well as trial and error to come up with a few compositions that I was happy with - but this has turned out to be one of my personal favourites from Tasmania (probably from anywhere to be honest).
Forest scenes have become one of my favourite to photograph since arriving here, so you can expect to see a lot more of this throughout the year! 🍃

Had some very trying conditions whilst photographing this one, with constant rain, and gusty winds. Keeping the gear dry & capturing a clear shot was challenging, but I'm glad I persisted and managed a few shots between the wind and rain. ☔️📸
I recently shared a new photography post-processing tutorial over on my patreon page. The tutorial covers a technique I have developed using in the field techniques & post-processing to create better waterfall images!💧

The southwest of Western Australia is one of the most biologically rich regions on Earth, home to an extraordinary number of plant species found nowhere else. Each year from late winter through spring, the landscape erupts with thousands of wildflowers, transforming forests, heathlands, and coastlines with colour - it is one of the best seascape photography destinations around Australia - offering spectacular photography opportunities.
Over 5 days (9th-13th OCT), I'll be guiding a maximum of 3 guests at spacious locations - I've made sure there will be plenty of time for each guest to receive individual tuition.
Transport, accommodation, photography tuition, take-home notes, and more are included.
I've personally travelled and photographed much of the Australian coastline over the years, and the southwest still holds up as one of the best coastlines to photograph!
Throughout this photography tour we will have the opportunity to witness and capture some of the Margaret River Region's most spectacular offerings, which may include;
- Crystal Clear Coves
- Rugged Cliffs & Sea Stacks
- Magnificent Dark Skies
- The Lush Southern Forests
- Wildflowers & Wildlife
