Tornati a Napoli Lunardi e Cavallo furono accolti come eroi, e il 13 Settembre 1789 i reali partenopei dai balconi di palazzo reale seguirono la partenza del pallone aerostatico ad idrogeno di Lunardi, evento eccezionale in Italia, il volo raggiunse Capodrise dopo un ora di navigazione.
Il testimone di Lunardi fu raccolto da Sophie Blanchard, prima donna al mondo a volare in mongolfiera, Napoli la vide protagonista nel 1811 quando si esibi davanti al re Gioacchino Murat nel luogo conosciuto come Campo di Marte, durante una esercitazione militare.
Eccezionale l'esibizione dei coniugi Poitevin in mongolfiera anche loro toccarono la citta' di Napoli nel 1869, in piazza del Plebiscito, a loro volta si esibirono in groppa a cavallo sistemato nella navicella o sospeso al pallone con funi.
