今回Eclatからタイヤのデザインのチャンスをいただき1からパターン出し、ゴム厚、コンパウンド、ケージング等全てをデザインさせて頂きました。
コンセプトは『新品でもすぐ乗れる』
実際ファーストサンプルは、パターンの良さは確認出来たもののゴム厚やコンパウンドの硬さなどで思った通りの出来じゃなく、慣れるまでに1週間ほど。
電動工具で削ったりと色々なことを試して、どの状態が1番良いのかという、現場から得れたデータとブランドが持っているデータを元にファイナルサンプルを作成して頂きました。
届いてびっくり、新品(ワックスはノンシリコンクリーナーで除去) でも普段通りのライディングが可能。
過去で新品のタイヤで普段の力を発揮出来ることは無かったのですが、装着してすぐ基本の技からコンテストの技まで、さらっとメイク出来るという、作った本人もビックリするくらい コンセプト通りのタイヤに。
パターン自体は、THE FLATLAND のトリックがしやすいように。
スピン、タービン、グライド、スカッフ、バックワーズ なんでも対応出来るように、角度や線の入れ過ぎに注意しながら、また溝深さもすぐ減らないように、でも新品のグニュッと感が無いように設計。
1-2日で『本調子』って感じですが、タイヤが削れる事により更にダイレクト感が増して乗りやすくなりそうです。
ちなみにそんなダイレクト感があるタイヤは滑らない？って思うかと思いますが、そこはブランド力、良いゴム使ってます。
ファーストサンプルは柔らかかったので勿論滑りにくい。で納得していましたが、逆に転がりにくい。
ファイナルサンプルは転がるのに変わらず滑らない。
いいとこ尽しになりました。

I had the amazing opportunity to design a new tire from Eclat, starting completely from scratch — from the tread pattern and rubber thickness to the compound and casing.
The concept was simple: “Rideable right out of the box.”
The first sample showed potential in the tread design, but the rubber thickness and compound hardness weren’t quite what I was aiming for — it took about a week to really break in.
I even tried sanding the surface with power tools to find the ideal state. Using that real-world feedback combined with Eclat’s technical data, we created the final sample.
When it arrived, I was honestly shocked. Even brand-new (after removing the factory wax with a non-silicone cleaner), it felt completely natural to ride.
In the past, I’ve never been able to perform at full level with new tires — but with this one, I could hit everything from basic tricks to contest combos right after mounting. It truly turned out exactly as I envisioned.
The tread pattern itself is designed specifically for THE FLATLAND — optimized for spins, turbines, glides, scuffs, and backwards tricks.
I paid close attention to the tread angles and spacing to avoid too many grooves, keeping the depth balanced so it doesn’t wear too fast but also doesn’t have that “squishy” new-tire feel.
It takes just a day or two to feel 100%, and as the tire wears in slightly, it becomes even more direct and responsive.
You might wonder — if it’s that direct, doesn’t it lose grip?
Not at all. Eclat used high-quality rubber that provides both traction and smooth rolling.
The first sample was softer and had great grip, but didn’t roll fast enough.
The final version rolls freely without slipping — the best of both worlds.
