このたび、院展で活躍される並木秀俊先生の截金作品による5年ぶり2回目の個展を開催いたします。
金箔を切り出して文様をつくる日本古来の装飾技法・截金。工芸で主に使われるその技法を日本画の表現と融合させた作品は、現代絵画のなかでも唯一無二の魅力を放っています。
近年では2023年には新潮社より画集刊行、2025年には高野山恵光院へ襖絵奉納とますます評価が高まっております。
今回は高野山に奉納された代表作ともいえる《金乳雀》《白孔雀》はじめ、草花や蝶など命の輝きを描いた作品や超絶的な技術が際立つ裁金文様板など新作約20点のほかに、新たに星座をテーマにした新たなシリーズを発表いたします。

This is a video showing the process behind “Peacock Shichisai,”
a work dedicated to Ekoin Temple on Mount Koya.
Within the process of creation,
the beauty of traditional techniques and materials
is also one of the work’s quiet appeals.
This is only a small glimpse,
but I will continue to share more at different moments.

先日、高野山 恵光院に奉納した襖絵作品
「孔雀七彩」。
近くで見ないとわかりませんが、
本作は極細に裁った金箔を
全体でおよそ二万本重ねて仕上げています。
一本一本の積み重ねは気の遠くなるような日々で、
正直いつ完成するのか自分自身が1番不安でした。
ですがこうして、この作品を温かく迎え入れて頂けたことに、今は何よりの幸せを感じています。
襖という空間の一部である作品が、
立ち位置や時間によってどのように表情を変えていくのか。
高野山という、今や世界各地から人々が訪れるこの場所でその姿がどのように映るのか。
そのひとときを感じていただけましたら幸いです。
【The Peacock in Seven Shades】
This work, The Peacock in Seven Shades,
is a set of fusuma paintings recently offered to
Ekoin Temple at Koyasan.
When viewed up close,
you can see that the entire surface was completed by layering approximately 20,000 strands of extremely fine gold leaf, applied one by one.
Those days of accumulation often felt endless,
and to be honest,
I was the one most uncertain about
whether the work would ever be completed.
Even so, to have this piece now
warmly received and embraced in its new place
fills me with a profound sense of happiness.
As a work that exists as part of an architectural space,
its expression subtly shifts with changes in light, distance, and time.
Here at Koyasan—
a place now visited by people from all over the world—
I wonder how this presence may appear
through many different eyes.
I would be grateful
if you could take a moment
to sense that quiet passage of time.

I am deeply honored to have placed
a peacock fusuma painting,
created over the course of one year,
at Koyasan Ekoin Temple.
This work represents the greatest challenge in my practice to date,
and I am truly grateful that it has been welcomed
into a place of prayer.
Looking back, it was eighteen years ago
that I first visited Koyasan through my research into kirikane.
To now return and offer my own work here, after so many years,
Additionally, on this occasion,
I would like to express my sincere gratitude
to Head Priest Kondo of Ekoin Temple,
as well as to all those involved.

当院へ作品をお納めいただきました。
並木先生は、仏像・仏画の修復や寺院装飾にも携わりながら、
日本の伝統技法「截金」を長年にわたり第一線で継承・発展させてこられた作家です。
本作は、
截金の線を約二万本使用した、先生にとって過去最大規模となる大作。
ご依頼から完成まで、実に 一年の歳月をかけて制作されました。
一本一本の金箔は、極限まで細く裁断され、
気の遠くなるような集中と精度の積み重ねによってのみ成立しています。
その集積が、単なる装飾を超え、
空間全体に静謐さと緊張感をもたらしています。
祈りの場にふさわしい作品を迎えられたこと、
そしてこのご縁に、心より感謝申し上げます。
We are honored to receive a new work by Hidetoshi Namiki,
a master artisan of kirikane, at our temple.
Mr. Namiki has long been active at the forefront of traditional Japanese Buddhist art,
working not only as a kirikane artist but also in the restoration of Buddhist statues, paintings, and temple decorations.
Through his work, he continues to preserve and advance this highly refined traditional technique.
This piece is his largest work to date, created using approximately 20,000 individual kirikane lines.
From the initial request to completion, the process took one full year, reflecting an extraordinary level of dedication and precision.
Each line of gold leaf is meticulously cut and placed by hand,
requiring intense concentration and an almost meditative state of mind.
The accumulation of these countless lines transcends decoration,
bringing stillness, dignity, and spiritual tension to the surrounding space.
We are deeply grateful to welcome such a work into this sacred setting
and for the meaningful connection formed through this creation.
