New Exhibition! “Threadflux”
Opening: Wed 1 July 6 - 8:30 pm
“Threadflux” is an exhibition by six artists who, starting from hand techniques such as knitting, embroidery, and assemblage, weave contemporary statements using fibres and textiles. Each artist investigates the textures inherent in their materials, the traces of seams and joins unsettling the boundary between craft and contemporary art. The works make the creative process visible, evoking tactility and the passage of time for the viewer, while questioning how materials weave in memory and social context.

思うように動けないことにも少しずつ慣れてきたし、
シリーズの回を重ねるごとに思いがけない色が現れるのがおもしろいです。

May was a month of constant interruptions, with my child unwell and studio time hard to come by.
Still, by working little by little—15 minutes one day, 30 minutes the next—the fourth piece in my *Unlayered Series* is nearly ready to leave the studio.
I think I’m slowly getting used to things not going according to plan.
And somehow, that’s often when unexpected colours begin to appear.

織るのが本当に楽しい、やっぱりタペストリーが大好きだと思う。
改めて、プライズのカタログや展覧会写真を見ていると、アーカイブと展示では作品の角度にバリエーションがあることに気がつく。「作品に天地は無いので、魅せ方はお任せします」のリクエストが伝わっていたのか、作者として嬉しかったです。
シンガポールでの展覧会は、どの作品もエネルギー値が尋常では無く圧倒されました。滞在中はとても忙しかったけど、それだけは鮮明に覚えています。本当にレベルが高かった。
フィジカルな体験や感動をもっとしたい、そう、個展がしたい。その為に、手を動かし続けなければと思いました。
受賞には至りませんでしたが、大変貴重な経験をさせていただきました。
授賞式では、それぞれの作家が向き合い続けてきた長い時間を思うと涙を堪えるので精一杯でしたが、温かく幸せな時間を過ごすことができました。
これまで制作活動を応援してくださった皆さま、そして体調を崩し、今回一緒にシンガポールへ来ることができなかった息子と夫にも、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。
改めて多くの課題や学びを見つけることができ、これからもさらに制作に向き合い、精進していきたいと思っています。
展覧会はこれから始まります。

「LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2026」ファイナリスト展は、5月13日から6月14日まで、National Gallery Singapore にて開催されます。

Although I did not receive the award, participating in the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize has been an incredibly meaningful experience for me.
The ceremony was filled with warmth, and I spent a truly happy and memorable time there.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported my practice over the years, as well as to my husband and son, who unfortunately could not travel to Singapore with me due to illness.
This experience also made me aware of many new challenges and possibilities in my work, and I hope to continue dedicating myself to my practice even more deeply.
The exhibition is now opening, and I sincerely hope you will have a chance to experience it.
The exhibition of the finalists’ works will be on view at the National Gallery Singapore from 13 May until 14 June 2026.
One of our 30 shortlisted artists is Misako Nakahira with the piece, ‘INTERACTION #YB’.
A tapestry artist based in Kyoto, Misako Nakahira received her BA in Textiles in 2015, followed by an MA in 2017 from Kyoto University of the Arts. In 2023, she was awarded a fellowship from the POLA Art Foundation Overseas Research Program to spend a year in Melbourne. Her tapestries often centre around stripe motifs to explore perception, structure and illusion.
National Gallery Singapore will host the Craft Prize exhibition from 13 May until 14 June 2026.
I am deeply grateful that the time devoted to weaving has reached further than I imagined.
I am thankful for tapestry and hold deep respect for weavers around the world.
With humility, I will continue my practice with sincerity and care.
