💎 Lenticular overlay has a thick zone in the center and thinner sides.
So when the nail gets pressure, the center can hold it — but the sides, where the gel is thinnest, can bend easily. This often leads to lifting and even breaks 😬
🏗 Arched overlay places the thickest part not IN the center, but ALONG the central AXIS of the nail.
This creates a true arch that distributes the load across a wider area, making the nail much more durable and resistant 💪
Can it still lift? Yes — but the risk is much lower.
When it does happen, it’s usually because of over-wearing or incorrect application, not the architecture itself.
Which technique do you use more often — lenticular or arched? 💅
This is what we learn in my advanced classes 👩🎓. Next class is available on February, 26-27 (dates can be customized), DM me for more info ✍️

A very popular question. Here are the most common reasons 👇
1️⃣ The center is filed, but the sides are not.
Underneath filing must remove an even strip of the natural nail across the entire free edge tip. Otherwise, this step doesn’t have a desired effect.
2️⃣ Edges of rigidity are too thin.
The arch must have consistent thickness along the free edge and the side edges. Weak edges = higher risk of lifting.
3️⃣ The arch is too thin.
When the gel layer on the tip is too thin after filing, it can crack and lift under load. A minimum of ~1 mm thickness is essential.
These three issues are usually easy to fix by adjusting your bit angle, movements, and pressure.
4️⃣ Incorrect architecture.
Sometimes the problem isn’t filing at all — it starts at the application stage.
5️⃣ Incorrect shaping.
If the lower parallels are filed off, there’s no foundation for the arch — and lifting becomes inevitable.
6️⃣ Over-worn gel.
Lifting isn’t always the nail tech’s fault. Sometimes clients simply wear their set far beyond its safe lifespan.
⚠️ Important reminder:
Underneath filing is suitable only for extension-capable materials — hard gels, polygels, jelly gels, and some BIABs.
Soak-off gels are not designed for this technique.
Questions? 👇💅
#nailtutorial #filingunderneath #hardgel #nailarchitecture #nailstrengthening
🔸Restoration is a temporary change of the natural nail architecture to make the nail stronger like correcting downward growing nails, curving inward, etc.
🔸 Armoring is reinforcement of the nail.
In many cases it includes restoration, but not always — like nails with normal architecture don’t need restoration and we simply reinforce the free edge.
❗️Restoration cannot exist without armoring, because restored nails must be covered with hard gel.
✅ Armoring can exist without restoration in certain cases.
‼️ And one important clarification for restored nails:
👉 If gel is applied with a pronounced apex →
this is restoration with nail plate alignment (lenticular overlay).
👉 If the apex is hidden →
this is restoration with armoring.
Understanding the difference helps you choose the right technique — and explain it clearly to your clients 💅

🔸 Soft gel
Soft gels are soak-off. In a thin layer, they can be removed with acetone. In a leveling layer, they usually need to be filed off (or removed with a combination of filing + remover).
Most bases are soft gels — even when they’re labeled as hard.
Rubber bases can be used both in thin and leveling layers. For other soft gels, always check the product description.
⸻
🔸 Builder gel ( — the most confusing category 😅)
Builder gels can be either soak-off (like bases) or non–soak-off (hard gels). This is always specified by the brand.
If a product is non–soak-off but isn’t a true hard gel, it’s essentially a hard BIAB — still less rigid than a classic hard gel.
Soak-off BIABs are usually more flexible than hard BIABs.
Builders are great for problematic nails, but not for serious restorations.
🔸 Hard gel
The most rigid gel on the market.
• Non–soak-off
• Used for extensions, repairs, and restorations
• Can be used for strengthening, and is most effective in the armoring technique
Hope this clears things up!

Yes — and no 💁🏻♀️.
Previously, we used the term “rubbing layer” to describe a very thin base layer applied under all other gels.
It was called that because the application technique involved rubbing motions, creating an ultra-thin film on the nail surface to improve adhesion to the following materials.
But times have changed ⌛️.
Nail techs noticed that on such an extremely thin layer:
👉 gel tends to lift
👉 there isn’t enough shock absorption between a flexible natural nail and rigid gel
So the layer evolved.
Today, it’s thicker 🤏🏼.
We no longer use rubbing motions — instead, we apply it the same way we apply color gel: evenly, without pressure, and without creating bumps.
This cushion layer reduces the impact of natural nail movement on hard gel, which means fewer liftings 💅.
And that’s exactly the goal 😉

Try these tips 👇
1️⃣ Use a removal bit for left-handed techs.
Its blades are cut in the opposite direction compared to standard bits, so you can keep your dominant hand straight instead of constantly adapting its angle to the tool.
2️⃣ Be ready for finishing manual removal.
Sometimes filing by hand is unavoidable. In this case, it’s easier to move your hand and adapt to the file than vice versa.
3️⃣ Use Only Clean instead of a flame bit for prep if skin type allows.
Only Clean can’t over-file, and if my hand accidentally twitches, there’s much less risk of injuring myself.
4️⃣ Hook scissors + turning the hand.
The hook prevents cutting more than needed, and turning the hand helps adapt to the angle.
Maybe I should try scissors for left-handed nail techs too? 😅
Honestly, working with your dominant hand feels like handling a complicated case 😂
Customization at every stage and constantly searching for smarter techniques.
What do you struggle with when doing your own nails?
Share in the comments — I’ll try to help 👇
👉 Only Clean is non-abrasive bit that scrapes not file. Its considered safe and doesn’t over-file, but still require a proper pocket opening when possible.
👉 Speed: 10-13m
👉 Available with short and long head.
👉 Can be used for thin cuticle that is attached to the nail and cannot be pushed with a pusher. In this case, you need to make several gentle movements without pressure to scrap the skin so it begins to lift and open the pocket.
👉 Can be used on normal cuticle that doesn’t require a lot of exfoliation with a flame. Also, I like to use it on my right (dominant) hand.
This bit is my choice for the past 3 years when I work with my permanent client who has a thin sticky cuticle 💅
Must try!

happy new year, my nail fam, and may your dreams come true in 2026! 💋

Because of the incorrectly placed apex, the arch (c-curve) turned out a bit flat and overly thick. That means weaker protection when the nails are under load. For example, my friend already hit her downward-growing index finger quite badly and partially tore it away from the nail bed 🩸. With a more curved, properly built arch, this most likely wouldn’t have happened.
On some nails, the overlay is also slightly bulky on the sides (from the top view) — but that’s already a minor detail.
What I really want to emphasize is this: she didn’t go to a beginner. Her speed nail tech is experienced and does an excellent pedicure. But when it comes to manicure… I believe that if the service had taken even 20 minutes longer, these mistakes could have been avoided.
So tell me — what matters more to you: speed or details? 💭

Nail DIY-ers often ask me for tips — especially about working on the right hand, because it usually takes 30–50% more time than the non-dominant one.
And here’s the best hack I’ve found:
👉 a removal bit designed for left-handed nail techs.
With this bit, you don’t need to twist your hand under the blades or struggle with awkward angles — you work exactly the same way you do on your left hand.
Honestly… life-saving, game-changing, mind-blowing for doing my own nails 😅
If you’re a DIY-er or struggle with your right hand — you have to try it.
The bit is available on our website 💅✨
