She’s been fascinated watching me sew all week, and with her current Cinderella obsession, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
As soon as we opened it, I suggested we “make” a dress—just like the mice do—and she was completely absorbed. For over an hour she pretended to sew with her big wooden needle, carefully added bows and ribbons, measured her “dress,” shouted “aha!” and kept checking her Cinderella book to make sure she was doing it just right 🤍
They really do copy everything they see. It’s often the easiest way to get things done—letting her do it alongside me, rather than trying to keep her out of it.
I could have carried on with my own sewing… but it was far too sweet not to just sit and watch (and join in) 🥹
It's been toddler heavy on here recently but the house content will be back very soon ♥️
Now did I rush straight to the middle aisle today when I popped in for mushrooms? Yes I did 😂
As you know from my post last week, I’m creating this little garden play area down the side of the house into a space just for my toddler — filled with activities, imagination, and her own little world. We do so much gardening together already and she’s forever in the greenhouse with me, but I really want this area to feel magical for her.
And what could be better than adding a little plant shop at the bottom, so she has somewhere to “sell” all the plants she’s been growing and potting up 🌿
Of course I’ll be painting the shop and making the whole space beautiful for her (while probably adding far too many hydrangeas and geraniums down there 😂).
We’ve only just started this little project, but it already feels like proof that you really don’t need a huge garden to create a lovely little outdoor world for a toddler 🤍

I know using a drinks dispenser for toddler garden play isn’t a new idea, but I wanted something that actually worked for little hands and looked cute in the garden too 🥹
This one came with a stand, then I added a matching plant pot underneath to make it higher so she can properly fit her watering can under the tap. It honestly works so much better this way and makes it feel like a real mini water butt for toddlers.
It’s been SO good for independent play, nature play and getting her involved in the garden without her constantly emptying my actual water butt 😂
She spends ages filling watering cans, watering flowers and just pottering around outside 🌿

I impressed myself at the time when I painted it, but the more I looked at it, the more I saw everything wrong with it. Also Lottie's obsession with the castle behind the door grew (not to mention our influence on preparing her for our Disneyland trip this year 😂) it just felt like it should have always been a castle, and after painting the door one, I did always regret not making it bigger.
It's still a Parisian themed playroom, we're just taking a day trip to Disney ♥️
Ps Lottie is so excited!
Would you have done the same?!

Over the past few years we’d added quite a lot of potted hydrangeas and geraniums down this awkward little side passage and it started to feel really lovely down here… but we never actually used the space.
Ever since I was pregnant with Lottie though, I always imagined turning it into a little garden just for her 🤍
We don’t have a big garden and honestly never wanted the typical big grass play space anyway. Our garden is much more cottage garden style and we’ve always wanted her outdoor childhood to feel connected to nature, flowers, mud, watering plants, collecting things, creating, exploring and slowing down a little.
So we’ve finally started turning this forgotten little passage into her own little nature play space 🌸
We made her a potting bench from old wood we found in the shed (which still needs painting and shelves adding), added her easel, little gardening tools, flowers… and I even made her a tiny little water butt which keeps her away from mine and gives her independence constantly wanting water 😂
She already absolutely loves being down here. It’s become like her own tiny world already.
I’ve also been completely eyeing up all those wooden water runs/walls filled with pebbles, shells, scoops and little boats… but they’re SO expensive 👀
Because of the cost and the space is quite narrow I’ve started sketching out ideas to make our own and to see how we could make one work along the wall without taking over the whole passage, because I just know she’d love it.
As you can probably tell from the photos though, the little square area down at the bottom is where I’m completely stuck 😅
I’ve no idea what to add there, so now I need your ideas…
If you were creating a magical little outdoor toddler space in a small awkward garden area, what would you add? 🌿✨
I really want this space to prove that you don’t need loads of room to create something imaginative and special for your children.

This is her little play station using the IKEA Trofast, filled with the bits she plays with every single day — mainly, and
She loves having everything out where she can see it, but equally loves opening the drawers and choosing things herself (which usually ends in everything on the floor 🫠).
I know these kinds of toys aren’t cheap, but I’ve just added bits over time — a lot second hand, and some (like the tiles) were a collective gift from family. They’re such lovely quality, feel so much safer, and they actually last… which makes such a difference.
And the amount of play they get vs all the flashy, noisy stuff she’s had before… says everything really.
It’s the kind of play I’ll always lean into — open ended, no rules, just whatever she feels like that day ♥️

So 2 years living with it and I can say magnetic secondary glazing has made a huge difference in our 127-year-old Victorian home. It keeps the heat in, the draughts out, stopped our condensation but keeps our original windows just as they are!
• Fits neatly inside your existing wooden frames
• Keeps your house cosy in winter
• Easy to remove if needed
• Much cheaper than replacing windows
If you love your old house but hate the cold, this is a simple fix worth trying 🤍 happy to answer any questions!!
Save this for later if you live in a period property!

Finding books I’d have loved as a child is one of my favourite parts of being a toddler mum. This Peter Rabbit pop-up book feels so whimsical and full of charm — like stepping into a tiny world together.
Charity shops always seem to have older books you wouldn't find now, they just don't make them like this any more!
Do you have a favourite book from your own childhood that you now share with your little one?
