Funny how life works, hey.

After a horrible divorce, you’ll say yes to a date with a bloke you probably wouldn’t have even swiped on. You’ll go the day before your first wedding anniversary as a divorced woman, not dressed up, not trying, not expecting much.

And then he’ll walk in and your first thought will be:
“Absolutely not. There is no second date here. He looks like a d****bag.” 😂

Anyway… fast forward a few years and somehow that same man is your husband, the father of your baby, and there’s another little one on the way.

Life is deeply rude like that.
The people you think will matter, don’t.
The people you nearly write off in the first five seconds? Sometimes they become home.

Turns out healing doesn’t always look like some big, cinematic breakthrough. Sometimes it looks like saying yes when you least expect anything good to come of it. Sometimes it looks like being wildly wrong about someone.

And honestly? Thank God I was.
🌿🌸 Perdana Botanical Garden in KL is the ultimate green escape from the city hustle—and let’s be real, sometimes you need a break from all the shopping, street food, and traffic! 😅 This stunning, lush oasis is the perfect spot to slow down and get back to nature. Whether you’re a plant lover, picnic enthusiast, or just want to find some peace, this place has it all.

The garden is HUGE (like, 91 hectares huge), with everything from themed gardens to a massive lake, beautiful sculptures, and even a mini waterfall—perfect for a chilled-out afternoon of exploring. And don’t even get me started on the Orchid Garden and Herbarium—so much floral beauty it almost feels like stepping into a dream. 🌼💕

Here are my top tips if you’re planning a visit:

1️⃣ Go early – KL heat is no joke, so get there in the morning before it turns into a full-blown sauna. Plus, you’ll get that peaceful, crowd-free vibe. 😎

2️⃣ Wear comfy shoes – This place is massive, and you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Your cute sandals can take a back seat for this one—sneakers are your BFF here. 👟

3️⃣ Pack a picnic – There’s something about sitting by the lake, under the trees, with a little DIY snack spread that’s peak relaxation. Bonus: The view’s not too shabby either! 😍

4️⃣ Take your time – There’s so much to see, from the Hibiscus Garden to the Deer Park (yes, they have deer!). So don’t rush—soak it all in at your own pace.

5️⃣ Family-friendly – Perfect for a laid-back day with the kids or even a solo stroll for some much-needed “me time.” And if you’re into photography, it’s *Insta heaven*. 📸

Perdana Botanical Garden is the ultimate place to hit pause, reconnect with nature, and forget you’re even in a city. Have you been? Let me know your fave garden spot below!👇

Head to the blog, link in bio, to read more about travelling Malaysia pregnant or with a baby.
Apparently pregnancy leaves behind fetal microchimerism – which is the very scientific way of saying your babies can leave tiny little cellular traces behind in your body for years. Wild.

So naturally, I’ve decided this means that every time my husband knocks me up, I get a little bit more Arab 😌😂

A little more dramatic.
A little more bold.
A little more elegant.
And somehow… a whole lot more expensive.

Scientifically, it’s the baby’s cells – not me literally shape-shifting into an Iraqi auntie.
But spiritually? Emotionally? Aesthetically? I feel like the theory still stands.

At this rate, by the end of this motherhood journey I’ll be floating through life in an abaya, giving side-eyes with authority and requiring gold as standard.

Motherhood: beautiful, sacred… and apparently also my slow transformation into a more glamorous version of myself. ✨

We’re back from China… and ohhh do I have a shit ton of content coming your way over the next few months.

Blog posts.
Videos.
Photo dumps.
Honest reviews.
Useful tips.
Probably a few emotional support rants.

My dad fully took over my at various points and I genuinely have no idea what he captured — I just know it was a fucking lot 😂 so even I’m about to be surprised by some of this content.

If you’re here for:
– honest family travel
– travelling with a toddler
– pregnant travel reality
– multigenerational travel chaos
– China with kids
– useful hotel reviews
– food, shopping, and practical tips
– the pretty bits and the feral bits

…then you’re in the right place.

That’s always going to be my lane: real motherhood, beautiful places, intercultural family life, useful travel content, and enough chaos to keep it honest.

Also, if you want more from different angles, my dad was capturing his own view of the trip, and my sister will be sharing from the perspective of a mum of two with a 10-year age gap and ADHD in the mix too — so there’ll be plenty to come from all of us.

Follow along if that sounds like your vibe, and check the blog link in bio for the longer, more useful, more searchable version of the chaos 🤍
🗺️✨ Planning a trip to Batu Caves? Here are my top tips to make the most of your visit to this stunning landmark!

1. Go Early: Beat the crowds by arriving early in the morning. The caves are less crowded, and the morning light is perfect for photos! 🌅📸

2. Dress Modestly: Remember to wear appropriate attire, as Batu Caves is a religious site. Long pants and covered shoulders are a must! 🙏

3. Hydrate and Stay Cool: The climb up the colourful 272 steps can be a workout, especially in the heat. Bring a water bottle and take breaks as needed. 💦

4. Keep an Eye on Your Belongings: Monkeys are adorable but mischievous! Keep your belongings secure and avoid bringing food, as they might try to snatch it. 🐒

5. Explore Beyond the Main Cave: Don’t just stop at the main cave! There are smaller caves and temples worth exploring, each with its unique charm and history. 🕉️

6. Take the Time to Learn: Look for informational signs and take a moment to learn about the significance of the caves and the Hindu culture. It enriches the experience! 📖

7. Visit the Dark Cave: For an adventurous twist, consider taking a guided tour of the Dark Cave. You’ll get to see unique rock formations and maybe even some wildlife! 🦇

8. Capture the Moment: Don’t forget your camera! The vibrant colours of the steps and the stunning cave interiors make for some incredible photos. 📷✨

9. Plan Your Visit: Check the weather and plan your visit accordingly, as heavy rain can affect your experience.

Get ready for a day filled with beauty, culture, and a bit of adventure! Who’s excited to explore? 🌟

People are always so interested in the “how does that work?” bits of an intercultural, interfaith marriage, and honestly… sometimes the answer is more ordinary than people expect.

Like yes, my husband is Muslim.
And yes, we have a statue of Mary, Mother of Jesus, in our home.

Before anyone gets dramatic, no, this is not some big theological rebellion. It’s actually a reflection of something much simpler: we live in a beautiful vintage Italian home, and when we moved in, we chose to respect the history and integrity of the house rather than stripping out every trace of the Catholic iconography built into it.

And that felt right to us.

I think sometimes people assume living in an interfaith home means every symbol has to become a battleground. But for us, it’s looked a lot more like conversation, thoughtfulness, context, and mutual respect.

Also, Mary is hardly some random figure in our lives. She matters deeply in Christianity, obviously, but she is also honoured in Islam. So for me, it doesn’t feel like this wild contradiction people might expect. It feels layered. Cultural. Historical. Personal.

That’s probably the thing I come back to again and again in this life we’ve built: not everything has to be flattened into a binary. Sometimes things can hold history, beauty, faith, heritage, and meaning all at once.

Anyway, just one more little example of how real life is usually far more nuanced than the internet would have you believe.
Do you have something in your home or family life that only makes sense once people understand the full story? 👇
Older white men on the sunset cruise in Langkawi clocked my husband’s watch and from that moment on he was “Boss.”

Very powerful. Very important. Very mysterious man of status.

Meanwhile, to me, he’s still just our toddler’s snack b!tch.

Funny how one man can be perceived so differently depending on the audience 😂

To them: Boss.
To Arthur: source of snacks.
To me: both, technically.

Anyway, if you enjoy this kind of travel-with-kids chaos, head to the blog for more fun stories from travelling as a family — link in bio.
I really thought having a girl would unlock some kind of cute little shopping experience for me.

Instead I’ve discovered that a lot of baby girl clothes are just… deeply impractical? Like why is everything floral, frilly, weirdly grown-up, or covered in slogans I didn’t ask for? She’s a baby. She does not need to “smile,” be “sweet,” or wear a tiny outfit that looks like it came from a haunted picnic blanket.

I want clothes she can sleep in, spew in, crawl in, and generally live her little chaotic life in. Clothes with actual nappy room. Clothes that don’t feel like they were designed by someone who has never met a baby.

So yes, at this rate my daughter will mostly be wearing Arthur’s hand-me-downs… and honestly, good for her.

I’ve written a full blog rant about the ridiculous state of baby girl clothes and why I’m already over it.

Read the full post at the link in bio if you also have strong feelings about tiny haunted florals and decorative discomfort 😂
Forget the tourist buses, the real way to see Istanbul is from the deck of a ferry, with the wind in your hair and a cup of Turkish tea in hand. 🚢🌊✨ The ferries here aren’t just a way to get around—they’re a whole vibe.

A little background for you: Istanbul’s ferries have been gliding across the Bosphorus since the 19th century, connecting the European and Asian sides of the city. They’re basically floating pieces of history, taking you past palaces, mosques, and all the beautiful chaos of the city’s shoreline. 🏰🕌 It’s like a mini-cruise, but way more chill (and affordable).

If you’re planning to hop on board, here are some pro tips:
1. Skip the tours, take a local ferry 🏴‍☠️ - Trust me, it’s more authentic, less crowded, and you’ll get to mingle with actual Istanbulites going about their day.
2. Tea + simit = perfection ☕🥯 - You can’t do the ferry without grabbing a simit (a sesame bagel) and a hot tea. There are vendors on board, so you don’t even have to leave your seat.
3. Sit outside if you can 🌞 - Unless it’s freezing, grab a spot outside on the deck for the best views (and the freshest air). You’ll see everything from the grand domes of the Blue Mosque to the random seagull just living its best life.
4. Go at sunset 🌅 - I mean, do I even need to explain this one? Watching the sun dip behind the city’s skyline while you float across the Bosphorus is straight-up magic.
5. Use your Istanbulkart 💳 - This little card will get you on board without the hassle of buying tickets each time, plus it works for all public transport. It’s a win-win.

The ferries are more than just transport; they’re a slice of Istanbul life. So, next time you’re here, skip the car, take the boat, and soak it all in. ✨🚢 Have you done the ferry thing yet? If not, I’ll see you on board! 😎🙌

Girl… I live in a Western country and got catcalled twice walking to the coffee shop the other day while very obviously pregnant.

Let’s not be ignorant enough to pretend harassment, misogyny, and men refusing to lower their gaze is somehow a “Muslim men only” issue. It isn’t. Patriarchy exists everywhere. So do entitled men. So does violence against women.

And honestly, a lot of women, especially white women, are taught that if they side with men, they’ll be spared from the harm of patriarchy. Like somehow being the “cool girl” or throwing other women under the bus will buy them safety. It won’t. It just delays the moment they realise the system was never built to protect them either.

Blaming an entire religion for male behaviour that exists across all cultures is lazy, ignorant, and deeply dishonest.

Men harassing women is not an Islam problem. It’s a misogyny problem. And that exists in every country, every community, and every religion.
