Maddie has been absolutely loving her new role as a big sister to baby Ollie. She’s constantly asking to give him cuddles and feed him, but like any 19-month-old, she gets a bit overexcited sometimes! Oliver Ong, born on with a very healthy weight of 3.8kg. He was baking in me for over 40 weeks, and I thought he would never come out haha. We tried having a water birth with Maddie, but was transferred to the main birthing suite due to some complications. So glad to have had a water birth with Ollie! Definitely a calmer, more positive experience.
Maddie’s been obsessed with her 弟弟 （di di) and wants to spend every waking moment with him.
The Real Life Play Kitchen has been such a game-changer for Maddie’s independence. It’s so much easier for her to wash her hands and get her own water without me needing to lift her to the kitchen sink, plus she now knows exactly where her cutlery is kept.
A quick tip for the water-loving toddlers: fill the tank a little bit at a time to minimise water wastage.
I’ve just felt more irritable and low throughout this pregnancy.
While my therapist reminded me that things like heart palpitations and shortness of breath can be physical pregnancy symptoms, they can also act as a false alarm for the brain, triggering that old, familiar anxiety if you’ve experienced it before.
Even though my symptoms are mild and Patrick is back at work, that underlying anxiety remained, so I knew that it wasn’t just situational stress.

Food throwing is a completely normal part of development, but staying calm and consistent is the secret to moving past this phase.
We’re avoiding future food-throwing episodes by teaching Maddie the “all done” sign and using a scraps bowl. It’s not perfect every single time, but the food-throwing has definitely decreased now that she knows how to tell us she’s finished.
