With immense happiness, we are proud to share that Master Puraf Ghalay (12), a resident of Kankebong under Bijanbari Dev Block, has been admitted to Class IV at Turnbull HS School, Darjeeling. He has also been admitted at Kripa Sadan Buddhist Mission Hostel, Rockwood, where he will stay and continue his educational journey in pursuit of a brighter future.
It was truly emotional to witness his father and younger sister accompanying him today to help him begin this new chapter of life. From Monday onwards, Puraf will officially join the primary section of the school. We pray that this young child grows with confidence, wisdom, discipline, and kindness, and one day becomes a source of pride for his family and society. 🌸

Members of various social organisations, representatives of the media, and concerned individuals gathered today at the historic Old Cemetery to commemorate the 191st “Birthday” of Darjeeling—a moment of deep historical reflection and collective pride.
On this day in 1835, the Darjeeling Hills were formally transferred to British India through the historic Deed of Grant by the Rajah of Sikkim. This pivotal event marked the beginning of Darjeeling’s transformation into a unique cultural, administrative, and educational hub, shaping its identity over nearly two centuries. Remembering this moment is not merely about the past; it is about understanding our roots, our shared history, and the forces that shaped the Darjeeling we know today.
The programme was honoured by the presence of our Guest of Honour, Mr. R. B. Rai, former Member of Parliament from Darjeeling, whose words added depth and perspective to the significance of the occasion.
Observing such historical milestones is essential to preserve collective memory, foster informed citizenship, and pass on historical consciousness to future generations.

As the cold winter winds sweep through the hills, some hands search not for comfort, but for warmth. For "MBKS Trust", winter is a reminder of responsibility — a time to stand beside those who need us the most.
Once again, continuing our annual winter initiative, MBKS Trust distributed clothes to the needy outside Glenary’s, in a heartfelt association with Edwards Foundation and Gorkha Women's Welfare Forum. What may seem like a simple act became moments of dignity, relief, and quiet smiles shared on the pavement.
Every piece of clothing carried more than warmth — it carried care, compassion, and the assurance that no one is forgotten in the cold. The grateful eyes and folded hands reminded us why we return every winter, year after year.
We are deeply thankful to the volunteers who made this possible, and to everyone who believes in humanity over indifference. We met Purab and his father today at Darjeeling Gymkhana Club. His father, a driver with very limited means, has been fighting life’s toughest battles alone. Last month, Purab lost his mother to kidney failure—a loss no child should have to endure so early in life. Due to illness and hardship, Purab has missed several years of schooling, yet his eyes still reflect hope, courage, and an unspoken desire to learn.
We are taking a significant step by admitting Purab to a student hostel in Darjeeling and enrolling him in an ICSE school—the first-ever ICSE admission under Project MEFAI.

We are delighted to share that Mr. Rahul Pradhan, President of Mukh Bandh Kaam Suru (MBKS) Trust, has been appointed as a member of the high-powered District Level "Hit and Run Committee" for settlement empanelled to provide rightful compensation to victims of the Hit and Run Motor Accident Scheme 2022, in the district formed under the Transport Dprt, Govt of West Bengal.
This committee has been entrusted with the vital responsibility of ensuring rightful and timely compensation to victims and their families under the Hit and Run Motor Accident Scheme, 2022 — a national initiative aimed at providing financial relief to those affected by tragic road accidents where the offending vehicle remains unidentified.
Under this scheme, compensation of â‚ą2,00,000 is granted to the family of a deceased victim and â‚ą50,000 to those suffering grievous injuries, helping restore dignity and support during difficult times.
Mr. Pradhan’s inclusion in this committee reflects MBKS Trust's credibility and commitment to social justice, transparency, and compassion for the underprivileged — values deeply rooted in our mission.

In the journey of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), there are many certifications that validate the integrity, credibility and transparency of the organization. 12A and 80G certification under the Income Tax Dprt, Minister of Finance, Govt of India, is the first certification that sets a NGO apart from the rest of the field. Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) certification, under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Govt of India, is THE ULTIMATE certification for any NGO in India. There is no greater validation of our genuine social service than this certificate.
It gives us immense happiness to inform all our wellwishers and friends that after having received the 12A and 80G certification exactly a year ago from the Govt, MBKS Trust has now been granted FCRA certificate from the MHA today, having passed various rigorous governmental scrutiny at the highest level of national security apparatus. We are now officially eligible to receive foreign grants and aids for our project. There are only a handful of NGOs in Darjeeling Hills with this clearance. This is great news for Darjeeling Hills as well as we have a FCRA certified NGO in our Hills.
The requirement for having Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) was actually realized in the late sixties when international firms including CIA were suspected of having relation to numerous trade unions, student bodies, youth companies, political companies etc. The Home Minister in 1969 raised this problem in both the houses of parliament that they should regulate foreign financing and it was discussed threadbare. It was chosen that the government would not permit foreigners of foreign cash to affect the performance or determine of the Government, political celebrations and other institutions of India especially NGOs who are doing charitable activities for the welfare of poor and needy. FCRA Act of 1976 was eventually enacted with the prime objective of regulating the acceptance and usage of foreign contribution and foreign hospitality by associations and persons working in the important areas of national life.
It gives us immense happiness and pleasure to inform all our wellwishers, patrons, elders and partners that MBKS Trust is now permanently 12A and 80G certified organization. It is undoubtedly another important milestone for the Trust which puts us on par with other big NGOs in India.
We had received provisional 12A and 80G certification on 23rd September 2021. After being mandated by the Govt. of India to apply for permanent registration, we appeared at two hearings at the office of Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Patna. We defended our provisional certification in the first hearing and cleared all criteria and provisions in the second hearing for permanent registration. It is indeed a huge achievement for any social organisation in India as it certifies the organisation to be carrying out legitimate social activities that merits financial support from the government and the citizens alike. It is a coming of age of sorts for any organisation.
12A and 80G are sections under the Income Tax Act 1961. Under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act 1961, non-profit organisations like charitable trusts, welfare societies, NGOs, religious institutions, etc. are entitled to tax exemptions. This tax relief was introduced, keeping in consideration that non-profit entities work for social welfare and not for generating profit. Owing to their selfless contribution towards the society, they are exempted from taxes that come under the purview of Section 11 and Section 12.
Section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961 primarily deals with donations made towards charity, with an aim to provide tax incentives to individuals indulging in philanthropic activities. This section offers tax deductions on donations made to certain funds or charities. An amount donated by an individual to an eligible charity can be claimed as a tax deduction while filing of an income tax return. All taxpayers are eligible to make donations to charity under Section 80G and claim a deduction, subject to limits set down by the government.

This includes hunger and poverty, education, health, gender equality and women empowerment, skills training, environment, social enterprise projects, and promotion of rural and national sports.
NGOs in India needs to be registered under CSR-1 form with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India, to be eligible to carry out CSR activities of any Corporation. After 12A and 80G certifications under the Income Tax Dprt, Govt of India, it is yet another important milestone for MBKS Trust.
