The top 10 percent of the May 2026 graduating class were inducted this morning into Kappa Tau Alpha, the national honor society founded at the J-School in 1910. Today’s ceremony was held in the refreshed Fisher Auditorium in Gannett Hall.

(1) KTA initiates Emma Clark and Matt Clark, who are not only twins but third-generation J-School graduates.

(2) Assistant Professor Jeannette Porter, adviser to the J-School’s Frank Luther Mott Chapter of KTA, conducted today’s ceremony.

(3) Earnest Perry, associate dean of graduate studies and research, gave brief remarks during the ceremony..

(4) Professor Beverly Horvit, executive director of Kappa Tau Alpha, gave brief remarks. KTA, which has 100 chapters across the U.S., is headquartered at the J-School.

(5) Initiate Laine Cibulskis.

Parting shots as spring semester 2026 winds down at the J-School.

(1) RJI social media interns Nealy Simms, left, and Kaitlin Green received graduation cords, certificates, and lapel pins from Assistant Professor Kara Edgerson May 7 in the Missouri News Network newsroom. Edgerson, the network’s digital director, also gave roses to Green to celebrate her selection as an NFL cheerleader.

Green, who’s studying Social and Audience Strategy, is a Walter Williams Scholar and captain of Mizzou Golden Girls. She’ll be inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha – along with the top 10 percent of this spring’s graduation class – at 10 a.m. May 15, in Fisher Auditorium. KTA, the national journalism honor society, was founded at the J-School in 1910.

(3) On May 7, ' graduating seniors and master’s students celebrated at Shakespeare’s Pizza with a unique twist on tradition. Instead of traditional rope honor cords, these audio graduates received functional blue XLR cables. Student Showcase: The Missouri School of Journalism will present the 10th annual Stronger Than Fiction Film Festival on Saturday, May 16, at the historic Missouri Theatre, showcasing 14 original short documentary films produced by students in the J-School’s Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism program. Admission is free and open to the public, with no ticket required.

The evening will conclude with an awards presentation, honoring four standout films selected by a distinguished jury of documentary industry professionals: Eric Hynes, Brittany Shyne and Nicole Stott.
