Wenn man an einem kalten, rauen, windigen Morgen die Kraft der Natur spürt, sich ihrer mächtigen Dimensionen ganz deutlich bewusst wird und sich angesichts der mysthisch anmutenden, sturmerprobten Bäume vorkommt, als wäre man als kleiner, verletzlicher Mensch von frostigen Giganten umgeben.
Und schließlich - etwas durchgefroren, aber wunderbar geerdet - denkt: Genau das sollte man viel häufiger tun! Geht es Euch nicht auch so?

Doch geht es nicht sogar noch etwas "perfekter"? Es wird gerade viel über die Erzeugung von Bildern mithilfe Künstlicher Intelligenz diskutiert. Auch hier auf Instagram sieht man schon Beispiele für solche KI-Landschaften, die visuell überwältigend sind, aber eben nicht real. Was meint Ihr: Wird dies die Fotografie künftig immer häufiger ergänzen - oder am Ende sogar ersetzen?

"THE OLD TOWN ABOVE THE CLOUDS":
This might have been the coldest morning I've ever experienced as a photographer, minus 15 degrees Celsius just before sunrise. But it was also one of the most beautiful. Cristal clear fresh air. A frozen fairy tale forest. And an old town seemingly floating on white clouds of fog.

For me personally this was a perfect moment, and I'm glad I was there to enjoy it.

But is there maybe something even "more perfect"? The use of Artificial Intelligence for the creation of pics is widely discussed. You can already see many examples here on Instagram, which are visually overwhelming, but in fact not real. What do you think: Will AI become more and more an addition to photography - or will it even replace it?

Aber sind das wirklich meine "besten Neun"? Kann man am Ende eines Jahres tatsächlich sagen, welche der eigenen Fotos die besten waren? Und sollte man Fotos überhaupt in Kategorien wie "das Beste" einordnen - oder geht es beim Fotografieren nicht eher um einen Moment, den man festhalten und am Ende mit einem Bild für immer verbinden kann?
Die wunderbare, goldene Morgenstimmung, die man am Flussufer erlebt hat. Der warme Sommerabend auf dem Stoppelfeld mit einem schier endlosen Himmel, der plötzlich über einem brannte. Solche Momente machen für mich das Fotografieren so wertvoll - und jedes Foto einzigartig.
Euch allen danke ich für Euer Interesse an meinen Bildern und den kleinen Geschichten dahinter. Vor allem aber wünsche ich Euch für 2023 viel Glück, Gesundheit und viele persönliche schöne Fotomomente.

But are these really my "best nine"? Is it even possible at the end of a year to decide which of your own pics were the best? And should you even judge pics by using categories like "the best"? Or isn't photography more about a special moment you can capture and will always remember by looking at a certain pic?
The wonderful golden light you enjoyed one morning at the riverside. The warm summer evening in the countryside with a sheer endless burning sky above you. Moments like these make photography so precious - and each pic unique.

Jetzt ist Geduld gefragt, und manchmal, wenn auch nicht immer, wirst du dafür belohnt. Plötzlich driften die Wolken auseinander, und für nicht einmal fünf Minuten erstrahlt der Himmel in jenen warmen Farbtönen, die du dir für dein Bild ausgemalt hattest.
Wer weiß, beim nächsten Mal kann es schon wieder ganz anders sein. Aber macht nicht gerade das einen Teil der Faszination von Landschaftsfotografie aus?

Sometimes landscape photography is like gambling. Despite all the technology and weather apps, you never really know for sure what will happen. You might have found the perfect spot, your cam on the tripod is ready - and all of a sudden the sun disappears behind a grey curtain of clouds.
Now you can only be patient, and sometimes, not always, you're rewarded. Suddenly the clouds drift away, and for just five minutes the sky is illuminated with these warm colours you had hoped for.
Who knows, next time the outcome might be different. But isn't this part of what makes landscape photography so fascinating?

Und doch erzählt jedes dieser Bilder seine eigene Geschichte. Der Baum selbst verändert sich und verliert unter des Last des Alters seine Äste, mit den Jahreszeiten ändern sich die Farben, und selbst die Tageszeit beeinflusst Licht und Atmosphäre. Deshalb kehre ich immer wieder an diesen Ort zurück und bin gespannt, was mich dieses Mal dort erwartet.

There are subjects I've already photographed a dozen times or more. Like this old tree in a small forest not far from my home.
And yet, every pic tells its own story: The tree itself changes and looses some branches as age takes its toll, the colours change with the seasons, and even at different times of the day you'll find another light and mood.
Therefore I always like to come back here and experience something new.
