Though there are just a handful of true, original Alpina cars, named the Alpina V8 Roadster.
Out of the 5,703 cars made in total, just 555 were produced as Alpinas.
Instead of the E39-borrowed S62 V8 and a manual transmission, these only came with an automatic and a 4.8-liter V8 from the top-model X5 4.8is at the time.
Less power but more torque, combined with the auto and the generally softer setup, transformed the car more into a cruiser, a Mercedes SL kind of derivative.
Therefore, not too surprisingly, the vast majority of the Alpina cars went to the United States 😁
Seen here, though, is a rare European ECE-spec car, as can be told by the upper part of the rear light being orange, which served as the indicator.
The styling changes, apart from the obvious wheels and badges, remained minimal. Probably the safest way to distinguish the V8 Roadster from the Z8 (apart from the gear lever lol) is by the outside mirrors.
These were finished in chrome on the BMW cars but were always painted in body color on the Alpina ones.
Regardless of the iteration, these are among the greatest cars ever made in my opinion, such timeless and gorgeous styling inside and out!
The single best retro car ever designed. Also made decades before this overall trend nowadays started, which makes it a little extra cool!

Wouldn’t consider myself a diehard Porsche guy/fan, but this one here is definitely among the models that are hard to dislike.
The beloved 997 GT3 MKII. Man, this is so much more baller than any obnoxious 992 RS!
Important Clubsport pack and in classic Carrara White with gunmetal wheels. So simple yet just right.
Also look at the steering wheel, not a single button!!
Guess sports cars truly peaked in the 2010s…
Widely considered the sweet spot of the whole GT3 concept and the most beautiful-looking one.
Truly admit this is a superbly proportioned car, despite the fact that I generally dislike rear wings on 911s (imagine they did a Touring version 🥹).
The fourth iteration of the GT3 came to life in 2010 following the 997 MKI, still manual only, with a power boost to 435 hp and engine bore up to 3.8 liters.
Also introducing a couple of new gimmicks such as PADM (Porsche Active Drivetrain Mount), which automatically stiffens the engine mounts when entering a race track.
Also the mesh of the air intakes in the front bumper was specially coated to improve airflow 😉

The mighty Mercedes W211 E55 AMG. Or specifically S211, as we’re looking at the wagon (T-Modell) here.
With the further developed, cherished M113 engine now with a supercharger pushing out 476hp!
Despite being one of the first AMG cars to come with a quad exhaust (all real back then 🙃), the general styling changes on the exterior remained so immensely subtle it’s almost incomprehensible by today’s standards.
Badges, exhaust, and that’s pretty much it.
Even the specific AMG wheels weren’t that big or shouty-looking.
All this changed with the later W211 E63 though, which got a way more aggressive bodykit, bigger wheels and even a small rear lip.
Also quite cool cars, but I probably prefer the more tamed look of the 55.
This particular example wears the classic common shade of Columbite Black, but interestingly lacks the “E55” badge on the rear.
Not too many stock examples around these days, and really cool seeing this one put to serious use with the rear seats flipped over to store all sorts of fishing equipment!
Vibe’s catching your dinner and bringing it home with a V8 wagon.
What a baller!

The interior also saw a classy overhaul, with even more Poltrona Frau leather and wood everywhere. It also came with a handful of amenities such as rear climate controls, massage seats, and wooden tables in the rear. Which Maserati back then marketed these as somewhat of a big deal. In reality, this stuff was already standard in the S-Class one generation earlier 😅 But in the end, you’re not buying a Maserati for luxury features, I guess…
Really cool car!

The convertible version of my favorite generation with the outlandish S65 V8.
Finished in mega-cool Sepang Bronze, originally introduced on the E60 and E63 M5 and M6.
On all E9x variants, this shade was only available through the BMW Individual Program and came with a serious upcharge.
Here combined with “Champagne” Novillo leather inside.
Despite this clearly being my least favorite body style of this generation, and me not being the biggest fan of hardtop convertibles, this one is probably as nice as it gets.
Also very refreshing seeing one that hasn’t been ruined with Style 359s or black kidneys 🫶🏻

Felt like sharing this from a late-evening, after-work drive with the 75 a couple of days ago.
Towards the end, I ran into the spring tour around the Upper Bavarian lakes.
Among the handful of classic Mercedes was also this: the, in my opinion, greatest 300SL in existence - and therefore my absolute favorite car in the world.
Originally delivered to New York and is now back wearing its glorious original specification: black (DB 040) with factory Rudge wheels over beige leather, and (importantly) the correct ivory steering wheel.
Absolutely unbelievable!!
Still, and probably always will be, among the most beautiful things ever created 🫶🏻
And don’t forget, these made 215 hp and could do 270 kph. 72 years ago!!
There is probably a reason why these continue to hold their value while ’50s/’60s Porsches and Ferraris are in free fall.
Seeing this roaring towards me in the evening sun was probably well worth the 30-minute delay for dinner with the GF 😅

Sort of well known on this platform, as it gets enjoyed and used thoroughly across Europe by its caretaker, but it was really unexpected to come across it again after almost five years (last pic).
Usually these maxed-out CXX/Sonderwunsch cars are an absolute mess of colors, details, and so-called historic liveries.
This one works surprisingly well, tbf.
Obviously a PTS paint called Azzurro Thetys, a Lamborghini shade known as the launch color of the Aventador Roadster.
Wheels painted in body color, dark blue roof, and a completely wild interior of white and royal blue leather. Even the mirror caps were done in white to match the seats.
Probably not how I would’ve done it but it really looks damn cool in the flesh!
The yellow ceramic brakes do look a bit off here, but in the 2010s this could never be changed, completely regardless of what you were willing to pay. Different colored PCCBs were reserved solely for friends and members of the Porsche family!
Quite contrary to today, where black and even more colors can be chosen on most GT models now. For an upcharge of course!
I maybe, possibly, see a slight correlation with the brand’s heavily declining figures compared to 8 years ago 😇😇
Just a coincidence…

Obviously from the original first generation.
Stunning Misano Red, rotary wheels, and the ever so important alloy grille and mirror caps. So good!
Still with the beloved 4.2-liter V8 taken from the B7 RS4, but now with a small power boost to 450 hp.
Generally considered one of the most beautiful modern Audi cars in general.
Clean lines, which slightly mimic the old Ur-Quattro.
Certainly looks a lot more timeless compared to the 204 C63 of that time, in my view!
The designer, Walter de Silva, himself calls the A5 in general his greatest creation.
This particular one is unfortunately a later facelift example (available from 2012), which strangely got an entirely new internal code: B8 instead of 8T, despite only very minor changes, most notably the more defined front lights and changed front bumper.
Which make the car look just a little less seamless and not quite as attractive.

The second generation of the Gallardo, generally known as the LP560-4.
Seen here in particular is the Gallardo Superleggera, the lighter and more powerful variant — the “Performante” of the old days 😉
Can’t believe I’m writing this… time flies.
Smaller wings, less obnoxious decals, a non-crackling engine note.
Better times for these kinds of cars.
Painted in one of the iconic Lamborghini shades of the 2010s: Grigio Telesto.
Such a cool sight!

Tonight, one of my absolute favorites: the MKII Bentley Azure.
Somewhat goals taking this out on a sunny Saturday with the family!
Made as the long-awaited follow-up to the original Azure in 2006. Already under VW ownership and based on the Arnage platform. Easily becoming the most expensive convertible in the world at that time.
Still with the 6.75 twin-turbo V8 and just some subtle design lifts. Not exactly aging gracefully, tbh.
Think about this: the first Audi R8 debuted in the exact same year this was launched!
I nonetheless love these to death 😅
With it now being a 20-year-old vehicle, the fact it looked old at launch is sort of secondary. Contrary to the majority (I feel), I’d choose one of these over the earlier MKI Azure any day.
Just 5m of pure abundance, chrome, and leather.
Seen here is a US-delivered example in classic Beluga Black and Saddle Brown leather.
Note the Monaco Automobile and Yacht Club emblems in the back.
Perfectly fitting for this Riviera cruiser 🫶🏻
